AHHHRGG! SO close to 14's!!!

Hey guys just got back from my second track day.
My first run was the best, but some parts of my times were getting better as the day went through. My first run was as follows
2.393 60'
9.799 1/8
15.077 1/4
92.84 mph
I shifted into 4th but now I think if I just stay in 3rd I will be a tenth faster. My 60's got better almost to 2.2 but I was still doing something wrong.
What I don't know is when to shift! I must be losing major power cause I'm shifting either too late or too early. I need some info on when is the best RPM to shift.
My other good runs were both 15.3 but my 60' on those were 2.33 and 2.32 which is so close to 2.2. I dunno I just need some help, I need to know when to shift, I think thats whats killing me on the 2.33 i ran mph of 91.79 and on the 2.32 I ran mph of 90.58. With those 60' times shouldn't my quarter mile time be in the 14's? I has to be the RPM I'm shifting, thats my only conclusion.

dave b has some shift points around here somewhere ??

if you ditched some weight i bet you would hit 14.9 ! take out the back seat and metal plate, thats 36 pounds, remove the spare thats what 25 or something, floor mats are 9 pounds, o and gut the trunk for and extra 6 pounds and remove the headrest. that should do it and hey PRAY FOR A 2.2 and you will smiling !

THanks guys, and Ceaser I am stripped down, I had barely any gas and took out all the seats and tire/jack. Maybe I need a tune up, but just like Sxn said, with that 2.3 he ran 14's...so why can't I?

The other guy listed his mods...could have more than you (do you have any?) click here i should have mentioned this before u got excited, i dont know if ur stock so that could have been what gotten him into 14s, but i did want to show u the shift points.

what's up bud, way to go.
those are pretty decent times for the mod's you have
shift points that work well for me:
1-2: 6500
2-3: 6200
3-4:6000-6100

you should be into 4th gear before the 1/4 is up

how'd you launch? rpm, feather the clutch or drop it?
was this your first time at the track?
if so you should be very satisfied!
alot of people don't pull that good of times bro.

Hey Cull, thanks!
It was my second time but I was still alittle shakey...I figured music would calm me down and it did a little. I was trying all different types of RPM launches and I think the best was when I lowered my tire psi to 20 and launched at 3000 which was a 2.32 60'. Umm I only have frankencar intake and ypipe which should put me in the 14's. Onlything I can think of is shifting at the right times and doing it fast!
I'm going again next month, maybe I'll have my exhaust finished with all that backpressure gone from my ypipe..but I doubt that did anything. Maybe I'll experiment with less tire pressure and a different rpm launch too. BTW I was dropping the clutch...

I also don't know how my tires and rims are...When I bought the car the guy had on some weird american racing wheels which I have no idea about but they look like they are 15's. My tires are just reg. street tires nothing special. I also heard if I mod my suspension..I will get faster 60's because of the launchs..

stiffer lower suspension would give you better 60' times and therefore, better 1/4 et BUT make it harder to launch. with hard suspension, there is less give in the body, so you're more likely to spin the heck out of your tires. just try some hard launches at a stop light before you hit the track and embarass yourself...we've all done it

Hey Farbs what's up. Good job on your times, you will surely get 14's, with practice you can always shave at least 1/10th or 2/10ths. I just joined .org, and noticed you and other fellow org members went to Byron. I hope to join you guys when - and if - you guys get back in October.

The thing I like about Byron is that you can run your car 10+ times if you want, they are not all about the money like Rte 66 in Joliet, and they dont drag their feet like GLD in Union Grove.

Me and a pal used to drive up there almost every weekend in his Z06, and they would have to warn us, and insist we leave since he would keep on coming around.

Im hoping I can get low 15s at 90+ mph, hopefully we can run next to each other and stuff.

Ahrg was just typing and lost it all cause hit the wrong button
Anyways was trying to say that I heard about suspension giving a better 60' but I also heard it doesn't
I was debating what to mod next, I got about 200-400 right now but if I wait a couple months I might have around a grand. I was leaning towards a NX basic kit and saving up for an ACT clutch...thats whats on my mind right now...

how many miles do you have on your clutch?

my clutch JUST NOW started slipping only after i put on my y-pipe(stock nissan oem @140,000 mi.)

the durability of the clutch impressed the hell out of me. even when i had a dry 50 shot it never slipped(about 50k mi. ago though).

hopefully after i rebuild the tranny myself i'll have enough money left over for a wet kit.
