In a Maxima, you would want to either fire back (towars trunk) or fire up. Normally i would always try to have them fire at an angle.. like towards the back/up. That sounds the best and distributes the waves. Since you seats dont fold down, you dont want them to fire there, it will muffle it and sound like crap. You would want it to fire towards the back where the waves can bounce back and make the sub sound louder and better. THis also allows you so push a bit more power. The waves are bouncing back and the sub will have a harder time bottoming out. Just what i have noticed from doing installs when i was at my local car audio shop.

I thought subwoofers put out *omni-directional* bass sound. No matter where they point, you hear good bass sound. True?
I have a sub box enclosure in my trunk that can move around somewhat during very spirited driving. No matter which way the sub ends up pointing, the character of the bass sound does not seem to change a bit. Am I all wet, or what?

Please advise. Thank you.

music type......

makes a difference..

front-rock,metal,country

rear-rap,hip,hop,bass,pop.according to some car mags..but I have seen many sub installs

I have tried it front and rear and I listen to ALL types of music and rear is how I have mine. To the front sounds bad unless you have a bunch of power your seat absorbs the bass waves and vibrations, firing up if you have a bunch of power over time your rear glass seal will go bad bass pounding up against that glass all the time. Towards the trunk rear facing the bass "doubles" back bounces off of the trunk for more power.

Towards the rear of the trunk is usually preferred, since you get an increase in sound from the reflection. It's also a good idea to bolt the box down so it can't roam around.
