You can wait until 60k. It doesn't hurt to change it sooner though.

Much better sooner than later. I waited til 37k, wish I would have at 30k. autos are too expensive to replace

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't tranny fluid changed every 45K? Is there a difference in the auto vs manual schedule?

Yes I spent the money and used Mobil 1 Full synth and did the change myself in the 'rage. Really easy......

Did I notice a diff in shifts? You bet your sweet boopie I did! The 1-2 shift at WOT especially is much firmer and not quite as laggy. My wife drives the car almost all of the time but she did not notice the diff.

Regular ATF lasts a little bit longer than 30,000 miles. The Maxima manual only says "check" the fluid. Regal Nissan (best dealer service department in the area) in Roswell, GA does their auto tran at 45,000 miles so that might be what you are referred to in their schedule.

A 5-6 speed could go 45,000-60,000 miles since it uses 75w-90 GL4 rated gear oil.

I changed mine (Nissan ATF factory fill) at 34,000 miles. The fluid was discolored and ready for a change. If you plan on keeping the car for 150-200K miles, 30,000 mile ATF changes are a necessity. If using Amsoil ATF, one could go 60,000 miles or so. Mobil 1 ATF could go 45,000 miles.

I flushed mine at 25k just to be on the safe side as the fluid was starting to darken slightly. I will probably do another flush or at least a fluid change at 40k cause I do not want to even find out how much it cost to rebuild a auto trans. in these cars. What aftermarket tranny coolers are people using?
