My 89 was made by the plant in Smyrna, Tenneesee...unless that pic of the plant in my owner's manual was to take up space

the pic was to show the plant and other stuff, its in my manual too. the 00+ had better interior quality then a 4th gen and the 3rd gen Supposedly( ) has the best quality.
overall build quality 5th gen is better then 4th, but i do read about coils going bad(same for 99) and maf sensors dies for no reason

These kinds of posts are getting old. Shifting production to Smyrna for the 2004 model year and rumors of lesser quality has NOTHING to do with American workers. This is a naive myth. If there is a quality issue it is due to the overdone cost cutting of the Nissan Motor Company, NOT the workers.

As an owner of 4th and 5th gen, i can easily say that 4th gen is the best max ever made. Its very dependable, and well made. I already had problems with 2K max, but 4th gen is running strong even with 100K.
The only problem with Nissan in all generations is brakes.

No kidding, I don't understand why people don't realize this. The assembly line makes it a no brainer for the workers, it all comes down to materials and equipment.

VW have been made in Mexico for the past 20 years. I don't know about quality of VW but they are not in the list of bad cars, such as KIA which is made in Korea
Also some Chevy, Dodge parts are assemble in Mexico and only cars. CISCO routers are made in Mexico (some)

Were they horrible because they were made in Mexico, or horrible because they are Jettas? BTW, lets not compare the uneducated labor force in Mexico to the educated work force in the US.

no its is true. i work on Nissan's every day of my life and the cars made in the us are crap. THey have alot of little bugs in them. True that nissan has started to use cheap parts. All the new cars look like they have been glued together... Look at the new altimas I have not found one altima where the trunk lines up perfect. The window regulators blow like hell on the altimas and the 2004 maximas are having little shaking problem. I will also state that its a brand new model so its going to suck the first year but honestly nothing will equal the nissan that were made in Japan... they were just better and had better parts in them

all Maxima 2003 or older are made in Japan. The new Maxima is made in TN to save production cost. I know it sucks since I don't like what i have been hearing about the initial quality problem with body panels are not align, squeaks, rattle. Hey probably got a rattle snake stuck in the engine while on the assembly line trying to eat a squeaky mouse.
