What are the differences with the 9004 bulb ?

I got a low beam out on my car.

So far i've found 9004 bulbs with several designations after the 9004

- 9004 hb1
- 9004 LL ( for the max according to book at walmart)
- 9004 blb
- 9004 XL HB1

Anyone know what these mean ?

I went to pick-a-part and got 5 bulbs for $3. All are 9004 hb1

Looking for a better set of bulbs to put in. I'm an electrician by trade so rewiring the lights won't be a problem. I would love to go hid but i don't have the cash to do it.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks , martin

HB1 is the designation given to lamps that use the 9004 bulb. I assume that LL means "long life" and the XL are probably a 15-30% brighter version. You're pretty much stuck with the 9004s. My recommendation are the Philips 9004 Premiums which are 30% brighter than the standard 9004. They might be sold under a different name so do a bit of looking around for them.

Of course, you could go that HID conversion route, but it's not really a solution, but more of a way around the problem. Bear in mind, you'll not have high beams and will cause excessive glare to other drivers and pedestrians.
