My antenna wont go up/power wont turn on!!! big problems, please help

got me a 96 I30 with the stock BOSE system.

Hi I got new tires yesterday and when my dad dropped off the car after it got the tires...... the stereo wouldent turn on(like when you push in the power button)..... so i figured it was broken

but later at night, when i turn on the headlights sometimes the stereo will turn on...and sometimes it wont...and turning the headlights on/off will sometimes turn it off when its already on..

And when you turn on the car, you can hear this moving sound of something trying to move...... Then when you look up on the top of where the antenna should come out, It looks like its trying to get up liek its stuck.........except every few times it will go high, and i am able to pull it all the way fully extended(while it was pulling it down)..then when its extended it will just slowly go down all the way to the bottom again, like when it usually goes down when u turn off the stereo(but really slowly)

Also when the antenna is all trying make its way out, the stereo in the inside(the console) keeps clicking and turning on for a split second to the radio..... and doing that every second or 2....with the green power light flashing too.
When you hold down tape, TAPE comes on the display but when u try to put in a tape it doesnt seem to be powered...

i've checked all the connections that i can(below the antenna) and they all seem to be in.....

can anyone PLEASE help......driving without music sux

yah, i think i probably have a short....

What kind of places would i go to fix this? How much around would it cost? this sux

I think that if you are willing to put out for an aftermarket cd player, after the shop installs it all of the problems will be fixed, other than the antenna.

That sounds like the inner working of the motor and its mechanism are all messed up. You will probably need to get a new motor or mechanisms, if you soon find that it stops moving at all, and the noise doesnt stop.
For that I am sure you can go to the dealer, but they will probably try to rape you for $450.
Ask a local audio shop if they can get you a replacement.

Sorry I dont know more to help you out!

Did you check the fusebox? That could definately be a problem. I had a MTX amp at one time, the fuse actually melted, and it did similar thing in my Jeep. It would cut off a few times, and then finally it died a proud death, but leaving me subwooferless. It could also be a relay, as how it keeps cutting on and off. Might be in your best interest to check these out before dishing out the bling for new components in your stereo.
