How do I take apart the A/T Switch???
How do I take apart the A/T Switch???
I've replaced every burnt lightbulb in the dash, and finally got to the A/T Switch... I take it out of the holding, replace the "P" and "C" lights... however when I tried to replace the A/T bulb I could not disassemble the switch! Can someone help me out here??? A write up/pics would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
PS Is the bulb that illuminates the cigarette lighter the type as all the other ones on the dash???
Thanks in advance.

yes.. the buld in the lighter is like the one in the dash.. but the ones behind theA/T switch are these super small bulbs that u can only get from nissan.. they screw into the back of the A/T switch as well as in the back of all the other switches in the dash.. u dont have to take that switch apart to replace the bulbs

2) I'm refering to the "A/T" light... i know the P and C lights can be unscrewed and replaced... but the actual light the illuminates "A/T" is inside the switch... and that's what I don't know how to take apart

It does not light up as far as I know. My first switch it was only the P/C that ever lit up. When those died I found a new one at a junkyard and only the P/C lights worked. Looking in the back, I only see the 2 bulbs for the P/C switch also.
In fact I always thought the A/T part was merely painted onto the switch.

Please someone confirm this
... it's been eating at me day and night... I've serached and found posts that say the switch does illuminate, and posts that say it doesn't
1) Does the switch (specifically the letters "A/T") illuminate?
2) How do you take apart the switch to change the "A/T" light bulb?

you're going to need to split the switch..you can see in the pic how.
the green boot part is the bulb that lights up the A/T part.

DONE!
Okay,
Just finished replacing the bulb so I saw it only fitting to post a write-up of how it's done...
1) Take apart the centre piece of the dash.
2) Pop out the AT switch by pressing on the two tabs near the top.
3) Once it's in your hand get a knife, or a really tiny flat head screwdriver, and separate the two plastic pieces near the bottom (one piece joined to the bigger plug, and the other joined to the smaller plug) - they are glued together on both sides... you'll probably hear a slight cracking sound - don't be alarmed
.
4) Now that the bigger piece is free from the smaller piece, stick a small flat head screw driver in the arear with the plastic tab (near the bottom - opposite the P and C bulbs)... separate untill it is no longer "locked".
5) Now using pliers squeeze on this area: when looking from the bottom.
.....___VV__ <- SQUEEZE HERE (ON THE VV AREA)
.....|.........|
----..........-----
|....................|
|....................| NB: IGNORE THE PERIODS
----------------
and then pull on the opposite direction of the plastic tab (towards the direction of the P and C bulbs)
6) In addition to the piece you were pulling on, another piece also comes out... replace the bulb.
7) Assemble - except you must put that other piece in above the bulb and underneath the main plastic piece that you pulled out - just a little alignment, and push it in!
8) PRESTO, your're all done... don't even bother gluing the 2 pieces back together... the switch will work fine.
Do this at your own risk - I take no responsibility for f--- ups.
Oh, and BTW the bulb in the lighter is not the same as the other lights on the dash... I couldn't find it at radio shack, so I guess the dealer might have it.
Thanks to all those who helped me out on this one

sure it's not a 272-1092 12v minilamp like the rest of the small bulbs in the rest of the switches inside the dash?
from the pic it looks just like some of the others but with a plastic base with the legs wrapped around it like the ones that light up just above and below the fresh air vent lever (on the left side of the climate control)

The "A/T" bulb is the same as the other bulbs in the dash... I was refering to the bulb that illuminates the ring around the cigarette lighter... that one is slightly bigger and has a conjoined glass base - no rubber or plastic attachment... I'm going to the dealer today to get ripper off (if they have it).
