Timing chain cover

HI I blew my timing chain on 1992 DOHC. Small half moon shaped piece came off engine. Was wondering if that piece can be repalced or if I need a complete timing chain cover. If so, how would I get one other than a dealer. Their price is $460.00.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Need more info
If someone told me they blew their timing chain, first thing to come to my mind is that you need a new motor due to the damage a blown chain can cause. What small half moon thingny are you taking about, apearantly this half moon thingny can be purchase at the dealer.

Nope. I sold the entire assembly to someone else.

If your tensioners give out, it could create enough slack to break the chain. Or if your VTC assembly goes ******* up, then the whole assembly goes bye-bye.

Hmmm. I did not know that. Something to keep in the back of the cranium. I guess the next logical question is what would cause the tensioners on the timing chain to give out?

"******* up" as opposed to "**** up." I will definitely have to use that sometime tomorrow at work.

if you have a local auto salvage yard try to find a replacement there. it will be a lot cheaper than the dealer

If the part has a defect, there is nothing you can do. Even on my neglected engine, my tensioners were "okay". As for everything else on the engine, change your oil regularly and make sure the oil level is checked frequently.

BTW. The tensioners are not really "on the chain". They are bolted to the cover assembly and only contact the chain to take up the slack.
