Impressions of Contintal ContiExtremeContacts

I replaced my 235/45/17 BFgoodrich G-force KWDS tires yesterday for the Contintal ContiExtremeContacts in the same size. They were $111 a tire from tire rack. Here are my initial impressions...

-Sidewalls are way too flexible. I have the PSI set at 35 cold and they still are soft. The Conti's handle considerably worse than my KWDS's. Dry traction and Handling goes to the KWDS's....No Contest.

-The Conti's are a much better riding tire, due to the soft sidewalls. The tires are very quiet and track well on the highway.

I will let you guys know more about how these tires perform in the rain/snow, when I get a chance. IMO spend the extra $4 a tire and get the KWDS's.

You really need to let the tires heat cycle and burn off the molding compounds before you can test a tire. Give the tires about 200-300 miles and then see how you feel about them.

BTW, I don't have Continiental tires.

They have 100 miles on them. The compound is fine, its just that the sidewalls are soft.

Most would say that it is a little softer from the reviews I have read.
It all depends if you're willing to live with the softer sidewalls...
But with everything else the Contis offer, I think its a fair tradeoff...

Heh I have them and think that they are quite good. For the money there is not a better tire.

Put another 50 miles on these tires on my commute to my night class. The tires are fully broken in now and they are no where as sticky as my KWDS's. Under heavy braking, these tires start breaking loose a lot easier. I will see if they get any better after another 100 or so miles, but as of right now.....Get the KWDS's or Sumi HTR+'s. The ratings on tire rack do not accurately reflect how these tires perform.

Can anyone vouch for the KWDS's or HTR+ in snow? I need an all season tire (ContiExtremeContact), but are the other ones good all season also?

wow you're the first with traction complaints.
i heard the sidewalls are soft but it does give a better ride...tradeoff i'm willing to go with.

Really like mine. Smooth ride and good traction. I have 18 incher and I don't feel much of difference from 16 inch stock ones I used have.

I am sure I won't be the last complaining about their grip. Maybe I demand a little more from my car, but these tires don't handle as well.

Juki....The KWDS's were very good in the snow. They were light years ahead of the RE92s that came stock with the car.

How stiff is your suspension? Is it modified with aftermarket parts? That sort of tire works best with a relatively soft OEM suspension. Overly stiff suspensions will overload the sidewalls quickly and reduce traction on just about any tire.
