Synthetic Oil Question?

Ok I looked up and down the fluid maintenance forum and couldn't find what I was looking for so that's why I'm here. I just got my 92 SE this week and the previous owner used conventional oil it's whole life. The car has 125k miles on it and I would like to switch over to Synthetic oil but my cousin said I shouldn't because of the high miles. Did anyone else here switch over to Synthetic at this amount of miles and if so did you get any oil leaks? I would most likely switch to Mobil 1 or Amsoil if I switch to get an idea and I would flush with that Amsoil flush stuff first. Any info would be appreciated. THX.

Don't do it.
Most if not all synthetics have detergents. the detergents tend to clean the tiny dirt particles that are keeping that higher mileage motor from leaking.
Ain't worth the risk in my opinion.
Besides you won't gain any power doing it so why bother

Ah wasn't really power I was looking for just was hoping to prevent VTC issue and I read Synthetic helps alot. I guess I'll switch to Castrol GTX and the Toyota 90915-YZZA2 filter and see how that goes. No telling what oil he was using so just changing to the Castrol way work well.

Several people also said heavier oil too.

As long as the engine is not leaking oil now, switching is fine. But then again, most of this has been covered in the Fluids section. Please review it again.

I heard from a Nissan tech that Mobile one is actually the best when it comes to prolonging the life span of VTC's.

Ugh. Please read the fluids section. Mobil is fine oil. Good quality. About being the "best" for this and that?? Who knows?? That Nissan tech really doesn't.

if it's not leaking now..then it won't leak. if it's leaking now..it'll get worse.
