I Just got a Maxima...FOR FREE!!! :)

Hey guys!

as most of you know i have had two maximas in the past, and now this is the third. but my second maxima (my 98 gle) has had some major problems lately.. such as:

1) auto tranny is almost dead
2) needs four new tires
3) crack in the windsheild
4) needs new side airbag harness
5) bent rim (not to to bad...)
6) needs an alignment very badly. (just did a swap out for my old shocks)
7.) paint is starting to chip alittle
8.) been in two accidents
9.) trunk will not automaticly pop
10.) rear passenger right side door will not open
11) needs new brakes... badly
12.) needs new rotors... badly
thats all... for now

so all that is wrong with my 98 max... and i have been having some really bad luck in my life lately... i mean really bad. lost my job (paying 22.50 /hr), over 2 g's in debt by just my credit cards, pretty soon i will not have a place to live, and one of my good friends may pass on soon. and that is just the tip of the iceburg. well anyway, enough of my problems... so my best friend has been watching and listening to my life dwindle into sorrow, and decided to help me out. he bought me another maxima so i do not have to drive my 98 maxima, and so i can actually have transportation so i can get a new job. how freakin awsome is that?

i tell you guys, i was about to cry. i am just so glad i have friends in my life that really really care about me and love me in the same way that my own family loves me. it is so rare to find a friend like that you know? welll, anyway, here are the specs on the new car:

1993 maxima
5SPD!!!!!
SE
moon roof
ABS
a deep blue type of color...
cloth interior.

and.... ready for this? 198,000 miles.

but you know what? it freakin drives like it has half that mileage on it. the tranny is very good, clutch grabs very nicely, and it still amazingly the engine has alot of life left in it and is still pretty quick! and the body has no rust, and the paint is in extremly good condition, except a tiny dent on the roof. besides, this is my first 5spd ever, so it is a good car to learn on.
well, thats my story... sorry it was so long. but give your thoughts!

very cool! I wish I had friends like that

If I were in your shoes (and I am pretty dang close -money wise), use the 3rd gen for a daily driver, fix up the 98 the best you can and sell it. You can use that money to pay off debts, and pay back your friend. Things will be alot easier that way, also the third gen will last for a long time.

Good luck with everything!

yeah, thats what i plan on doing. hopefully i can get around 8 grand for my car. if i can't then i will just get as much as posiable for it as i can, pay off all my debts, my friend, my mom, grandparents, my rent, and then if i have left over money i will hopefully go back to college and get an education. but it is all dependant on what i get for my car

my feelings go out to you. do as they said and sell the 4th gen. you will get through this. just keep believing in that and acting on it.

there are lessons in this, too. keep your head up and be strong.

yea he got you the top of the line 3rd gen a VE30de 5spd is hard to get your hands on (i have one too) take care of her and you wont have any problems. sell your newer one and pay those bills. hey im there right with you. ive got a wife and a 1 year old daughter, im stuck back at my parents house, my job stinks, 7000 plus in debt (and thats just credit cards) and finding another job is really hard ive been looking. My wifes grandmother just passed and tensions are high. but all in all enjoy your new car and keep your head up ! i consoled myself by buying a CAI from littlepiggie. HEHE mods always cheer me up..

Thanks guys, your words of encouragement mean alot to me. but i am not sure what to do now... i've been talking to my brother and he is telling me to get rid of the 3rd gen, and take out a personal load for $3,000 and fix all the major problems i have with my fourth gen. he tells me it is alot more wise to do this because my 4th gen has alot more life in it then the 3rd gen, and if i fix it up it will be in alot better condition as well.

i don't know what to do! i like both of my maxima's, and i don't think i could just tell my friend that i have to sell the car. i'm torn. what do you think i should do? i mean my mom is not the nicest person in the world, and my friend knows this, so i could say that she will not allow me to have it in the driveway.. oh, i don't know. please give your thoughts and sugestions. thanks again.

For a 98 that sure is a lot of problems. I have a 91 and haven't even had half of what the 98 has. I would keep the 93, work to fix what is wrong with the 98 and then SELL it, and pay off whatever debts I have, but this IMO.

Do whatever is best for you and your family. If you have to sell the 93 for other reasons I am sure your friend will understand.

Chris-
The reason why I was saying sell the 98 and keep the 3rd gen is because the 98 has alot of value left in it, you will get more money out of it. If you sell the 3rd gen and keep the 98, you will have to keep paying the depreciation on it, while with the 3rd gen the depreciation isnt going to be much, if anything at all.

As for reliability, dont worry about it. The car may be older, but you will get many many miles and years of good driving out of it. Dmontzsta has about 280,000 miles on his VE and its running strong. It's a really nice car to rack up the miles on. Basically from a reliability standpoint, there really isnt much of an arguement.

I hope that gives you some ideas. If it were me, I would sell the 98 because you can get alot more money out of it, work threw this little road block life has sent you, then think about getting a 4th gen again (you might like the 3rd gen better by then though ).

For what it's worth I agree that you should sell the 98 and keep the 93. The depreciation rate is much higher on the 98 right now. and it is currently worth more. People look and say it's on a 5 year old car. besides how many miles does it have ?
people are suckers for a low mileage car. they think cars self destruct at 100k.
Personally I've had better luck with higher mileage cars myself.
My low mileage celebrity ate a timing gear while I was on the highway and then proceeded to start knocking.
My Low mileage minivan has eaten 2 trans and an engine.
on the other hand my high mileage Bonneville is still running beautifully (sold it at 125K and 5 yrs old) know the current owners.
My high mileage trucks both run excellently.
I personally prefer high mileage to low mileage.
If a car reaches high mileage then chances are it was maintained well in order to get there.

youll be getitng yourself into more detb buy selling the 3rd gen it proboly nopt worth more than 1500 - 2000$ with that many miles on it. if you sell the 4th gen youll get out of debt and still have money left over its a know brainer of course you 4th gen isnt worth much more than you 3rd gen right now in the condition that its in espialy that tranny is going to be expensive to fix good luck

I agree that you should sell the 4th gen & keep the 3rd gen. Besides, how would you tell your friend that you are not going to use the car he just bought you?

It's an honor thing. You could sell the 3rd gen but lose the friendship respect. Don't be selfish.

I wouldnt sell something that a good friend gave you to help you out. Your 98 is useless without all those repairs so just sell it without spending any money on it and try and reset yourself.

if I were you I would sell the 98 as is and not put any more money in it unless you are a mechanic or have friends that are mechanics that can get the work done cheap. You will end up putting thousands into fixing the car, so sell it as is and take the loss.

Life has its ups and downs. I am 30 was married at 22 have a 8 year old daughter, other than my daughter life was hell for about 5 years. Wife left me for someone else (best thing she ever did for me). A couple of years ago I met the love of my life and got married this past may, life has never been better.

Every day is a gift, treat it as so.

well they are center caps that cover the center lugs. The rims are aluminum 15X6.5 stock tire size should be 205/65 15's with 5x114.3 lugs and a 40S. You could not get "hub caps" until later 4th gens I beleive.
