Clearing the computer not just the SES light

How do you clear the ecm of the codes? I know how to read the codes and how to reset the CEL light, but how do i reset the computer to know if the code comes back? I disconnected the battery but the same codes appeared right away.

Resetting the CEL is the same as clearing the codes if you follow the method outlined in the FAQ.

Then you know you really have a problem...

You cleared it, it came right back. No big deal.

Actaully, try this:

Reset the CEL like normal.
Turn the car off and take the key out.

DO NOT START THE CAR

Check the codes again and you should get 0505 (all clear).
