removing window tint
removing window tint
I need to replace the rear window tint. 3 places I've been to said they won't guarantee my rear defogger will work after the job is done. 2 of the three pretty much told me I could kiss the defogger goodbye if they remove the old tint. Is this the deal or are these guys full of ****. Is there some way I could get this off carefully without doing damage. The old stuff is starting to peel at the edges and for some reason it was put on in three pieces.
Thanks for any help

yeah, i have the tint removed.. what you want to do is heat it up, so turn on your rear def and then pull it off. i actually just pulled mine out and then had a dude tint it back .. maybe its a myth or something ? all is well
just heat it up with a heat gun and have the defroster on and i should be able to pull off the tint you say? my rear window is so fuzzy/foggy looking and i want to retint it so bad. i've also wanted to remove my rear brake light cuz i disconnected it after i got my spoiler but my tint is weirdly cut around it so once i can get the tint off, i'll remove it completely.
when i removed the tint that came on the car (purple) i took it off the back using a razor and a very careful hand. get 3m adhesive remover and it should come off in a second.. then use ur finger to peel. be careful nay cuts on ur fingers are gonna sting like a motherfu*er...

This is the method I used and it worked. When I bought my car the tint was purple and bubbly. I used this method + a razor to get off any tint that was left behind (which was alot because of the bubbles)...but I got it done. It took a good 4-5 hours but it was well worth it. I got it all off and the defroster still works. Besides the razor I also used paint thinner to remove the adhesive but any type of adhesive remover will work to remove any stubborn adhesive. Good luck.

Tint removal
I just removed mine a few days ago...it was purple and bubbly. I'm the original owner, and the tint lasted me a good 9 years. Just used a razor to "lift" a corner on each window, and it pulled off in sheets. I got the adhesive off with nail polish remover, and lots of elbow grease. Took me a good 5 hours, but looks great! Defroster still works great
This **** is coming along real slow. The two layers aren't coming off together. Took me like an hour to do a six inch squre area in the corner. Do I have to be careful of the window edges where there is a border of black dots when using the razor blade? Is thispart of the rear defrost?
