Have you replaced your BOSE system?

I am on my 4th replacement of the BOSE system (I have had the car a little over a year...), I have noticed others have had the same problem I have had. I was just curious as to how many times you had to replace your BOSE system before it worked correctly (if ever..)

when my bose started to act up, that just gave me another reason to throw in an aftermarket system.

The only thing I replaced were the tweeters. There is actually treble now. Amazing what a simple tweeter change can do.

Ok so does anyone know anyone that has gotten Nissan to replace their factory BOSE system with an aftermarket one? The reason why I ask is I think (don’t quote me on it) under North Carolina Lemon Law Nissan is required to either replace the car (which is doubtful because it is not the car that is the problem) or make some arrangement to fix the problem with something works, and I wonder if anyone else has gotten Nissan to replace the factory system with a aftermarket system for free under a lemon law.

Also what is a good replacement for the factory system? I know the size is Double DIN (I think?), and is there an aftermarket system that uses the controls that are on the steering wheel?

dang! my cd got stuck also! Why is everyone having such problems when BOSE is supposedly a company that is known for their good quality audio equipment?

No not yet, but I plan on replacing it entirely with aftermarket soon. 2 12" subs in a custom bandpass box are on their way right now

i am on my 3rd and im about to take it in for a 4th.

1st one had the drivers side speakers cut in and out, 2nd one stopped reading CDs, and now the 3rd one makes abnormal clicking noises when CDs are switching, takes an excessively long time to change CDs, and sometimes it just cant read a CD and skips over it and goes to the next one in the changer.

EDIT:

PLEASE EVERONE SEE MY NEW POLL ABOUT THE BOSE HEADUNITS

AND PLEASE ONLY VOTE IF YOU HAVE REPLACED YOUR HEADUNIT BECAUSE IT HAS BROKEN OR MALFUNCTIONED. NOT BECAUSE YOU JUST WANTED AN AFTERMARKET SYSTEM

I got it replaced once because the CDs were stuck. Sounds great though. No complaints after that.

WOW! I guess i am very lucky. I have had the Bose every since i got my AE max 2 and a half years ago. I had the bose sub disconnected though and my subs were wired up to the stock headunit. The other 6 BOSE speakers still sound as good as they were when i got the car. NO problems so far......

i think this is specifically a problem with the 02/03 bose head units.

Once... The car was about 10 months old when it started acting up. The left channel would cut out when playing a CD if the car was moving. If the car was still, it worked fine. So far... so good. No more trouble.

Please try to remember that BOSE did not build the head unit, CLARION did. The crappy Clarion head unit is the source of most of our trouble. These POS clarion head units have been a sore spot in Nissans since the 80's. They rarely last the life of the car. The BOSE label is on the front because they designed the speakers and (maybe) the amps and Nissan thinks it's a good selling point to have 'BOSE' stamped on the front of it.

Of the oem audio head units out there, the most reliable I have seen is Alpine. Honda and BMW use them. I've had both and both gave me no trouble. GM's Delco stuff is almost as bad as Clarion. I've had Toyota's with Fijistu Ten and Panasonic, some good and some bad.

Anyone know who makes the non-Bose head unit? I haven't read about any similar problems with that head unit.

Pretty sure it is also a clarion. I remember someone saying it's the speed controlled volume circuit that causes the problem. I don't think the non-bose unit has that feature. It is accessed with the button that controls BASS, TREBLE, BALANCE, FADER, SCV. Does your unit cycle to SCV after the fader selection?

If you like the way it sounds now, replace the front tweeters and you'll really like it. New tweeters will get rid of that "dead" sound up front. They will also raise the image off the floor.
