18x7.5 limited 800 wheels. and 235 wide tires question..

im looking into getting a used set of 18 by 7.5 limited wheels. and they have 235/40/18 tires on them. i tried 255/35/20s on my car with 20 inch rims, and they wouldnt turn, i know i wont have a problem turning. But how close to the suspension strut would i be with 235 series tires. with my 255 20s with a rear wheel drive offset of 15 i was very close. now these 235s are fwd offset which i guess means it sits the wheel in closer to the strut tower. im not sure of the offset of the rims, but they came off a older gs300. i just want to make sure they will not hit the strut and hopefully they will tuck under well. i can't find any info on these limited #800 rims, but what offset would be to close if anyone has any experance with this i would be glad to hear from you. thanks matt

i have 17x8 wheels with 235/45 tires and i have a little over an inch gab between the wheel and strut in the front and about a finger width in the back. The back is much closer than i expected.

Normally I'd say do a search to find the tire calc to help you determine the correct tire size.
BUT, the search is not working for me right now. only gives me dead posts with the oldest ones first.

http://www.net-comber.com/tirecalc.html
try that calculator it also gives approximate widths to help make sure you don't end up with a tire so wide that it rubs or hits

depends on the offset of the rim...mine are 45mm with a 5mm spacer bringing it down to 40mm. 235 series is fine with a minor rub when the wheel is completely turned

Which reinforces what I've said about fitting 235/45's in this recent thread also:
