Non Bose Setup Sucks
I have a 1990 that has probably the worst audio system EVER. This is the deal with it. My stock rear 6-3/4 speakers have both blown. The driver side 4x6 speaker is blown and the only speaker that works is now the passenger side 4x6. All of the seakers are stock. My stock HU is s****y. If I have it on without starting the engine and then try to start the engine it will not crank so I have to turn it off before starting the engine. If I cut the car off overnight the memory functions for my fav. FM stations goes dead and I have to manually fing the stations again. Right now I am about to remove the WHOLE setup wires and all and add in some fresh everything. Is this wise? I also want to throw that ugly stock amp in the fireplace b/c it sucks. I need to know how to remove it and the whole dumb *** setup. Please give me info on how I can do this. For the record I have a 1990 GXE Non Bose.

Hmmm... Is it wise??
Dude, you answered that one just by explaining what's going on with your current setup. Let me answer your question WITH a question (yeah, I know that's wrong... SUE ME!!) :
Unless you're restoring your car to OEM "newness", do you really want to invest the couple hundred bucks it'll likely cost to repair 3 out of 4 speakers along with the crappy HU???

I am buying a new and complete non stock setup. Probably a panasonic or jvc HJ and some 6.5 for the front and 6.5 for the back. I will wire an amp to all of this so I won't over work the HU internal amp. Maybe I will add a 2 subs 1000 watts max and an amp for those. I feal like wasting my money. My girlfriend hates the stock setup too but who wouldn't? Thank you 94M@X

I just had the JVC 9900 headunit and Alpine 5 1/4 type S speakers installed in front and Alpine 6X9 type S speakers in back and added my 10 inch self powered bazooka tube and it sounds pretty damn good my only gripe though is not enough mid's probably cause I had a component setup in my old car so was used to it before. The HU amp is fine to power these speakers.

Bose sucks. Take all of the Bose stuff out and replace it with aftermarket stuff.
I've got an Alpine HU for sale if you want it. It is a model 7840 and works perfectly. I upgraded to MP3 (alpine 9807). I also tore out my bose and installed all aftermarket stuff.
If you are going to put in 6.5s in the doors, get in touch with James92SE, he makes awesome pods for those. I have a set and they are great. You can check my website (last page) for pics.

yea I replaced the Bose in mine witha 50Wx4 pioneer head unit and all four speakers replaced with pioneer with 6x9's in back. and bose amp things bypassed and got some caps to use to filter out low freq bass from front small speakers.
I'm quite happy with it

I am currently thinking about an MP3 player since I had one before (when I didn't have a car) and I'm used to about 200 songs on a disk. I will contact Jame92se because I am going to need some pods. Thanks for the recommendation.

BTW, for ease of installation, 6x9s are the stock size for the back. If you want to use 6.5s back there, you are going to have to (or have someone else) create a way to mount them. Just a heads up before you go out and buy stuff.
If you leave the stock bose amp in the back, it is all set up to bottom mount 6x9s. All you have to do is unplug the bose speaker, bypass the amp and remove the four screws per speaker.
