Engine Swap Idea!!! Must Read ;)

Hey guys,

People are always asking about motor swaps with our 3rd gen maximas. From simple VE30DE swaps to VG30DE, VQ30DE(-k too), VQ35DE, SR20DET, RB2xDETT, lately VH45DE, and a bunch more.

Now I would like to attempt a rotary swap. I've never heard anyone ask about this before, so I would be Dodge Different. It would be a very economical swap, I'd get much better gas mileage (400ish a tank isn't good enough for me) and would save weight. Not to mention I would have a higher redline, and lets face it, you never drive in the off-idle to 3000 range so it would be a very effective swap.

Anyway's, I'm looking forward to your replies/ideas.

EDIT: Second Disclaimer: I changed the Disclaimer color because I didnt match it as well as I wanted to.

i know it's a joke but i know a guy who could probably do the swap and get some insane power out of it. if you did that you could pretty much use any fwd tranny you want since the engine is so small and would leave plenty of room for custom mounts. you could get a tranny that will handle lots of power then toss in a rotary with some boost and be flying all over the place.

downsides would be they actually get terrible gas mileage, they aren't all that reliable, if you port them they sound like ***, mazda is owned by ford, and the list goes on.

what would be sweet is a 20B 3 rotor out of a cosmo though!

i'm all about crazy swaps so this would be interesting to me, lol.

Oh I already thought all that out.
When I had the carpet out of my car, there is clearly enough room for a driveshaft to the rear of the car. Also if I fill the engine bay full of polyeurothane, alot of the 'hard' customization would be cut out.

Oh yeah expandable polystyrene engine mounts would cut out alot of the machining special mounting adapters.

it's not a Mod, its a swap!

And I will document it well, along with pictures, I usually take alot of pictures.

I was thinking about mating two 2 rotor motors together to make a 4 rotor motor.

be sure to set the engine a bit cockeyed to the right (the right if you are looking at it from the front). don't know why but mazda didn't put the engine in there straight.

i believe you can buy the true 4 rotor from mazda for 1 million dollars...

My bad you're right it's a swap, but if you mate two rotarys together then use the expandable polystyrene engine mounting then isn't it a swap/mod.

mtcookson- I think I'll tilt it slightly to the left, seeing as I already did a VE30DE-R swap on my car, I might as well do something different with this one too.

Nozama- Something like this is alittle to big to be called a mod, it's graduated into swap territory. Just like how changing light bulbs isnt really a mod either. You can however swap light bulbs. I hope this clears the issue up.

btw. R=Reverse.
