Disappointed with my first time

I had a lot of fun but my best time was only 15.9 about 85mph with a 60' of 2.3xx. Ill post the full slips later but i just wanted to get some basic feedback.

1998 SE Automatic, with an Injen intake on stock rims. These times were slower than what i expected and my trap speeds were way below. What confuses me the most is how my 60' can be faster on run #4 but i finished in a slower time with a slower speed. Its not like i couldve missed a gear its automatic. I should note that run #2 was the only one in a different lane though so maybe that couldve made the difference i dont know. Some other things that might factor are my tires are not that great, and i didnt really let the engine cool in between runs because i didnt have too much time to get a lot of runs in. Basically 4 races in 2 hours was the most i could possibly get. Any suggestions would help, thanks.

that dosent seem all that bad, about average, not fantastic but not as bad as ive heard of. intake isnt going to do much for your times, get a y pipe.

also was this your first time?

you can check your ecu for codes?

good luck

cant help you there(codes). first time plays a big part, my brother and i would screw around all the time in our cars, but when he finnally went to the track he pulled a 15.5 with his auto ls1 he now runs 13.7 consistantly after his second trip(all stock)

how did you launch the car ? rpms ? of course your 60 foots need working on, which would help you overall. try to get the 60 foot down a bit.

work on the launch, like everyone always says. it'll help a lot - but otherwise, not bad times. it'll come down. get the y-pipe too

I don't know if you guys noticed but he's only gaining 14-15mph in the last 1/8 mile. That's really low. Isn't it supposed to be 18-21?

I say check for codes and my guess is a bad ks.

You can definitely do better but high 15s/low 16s are typical for a stock auto.

yeh he should be gaining a lot more on the last half.. i would suggest knock sensor, except that when the knock sensor goes bad as far as ive seen the cars have trouble breaking 17 flat let alone 16.

Am i wrong saying that a reaction time of under 1 second is pretty decent? That felt pretty good too me, and i didnt have too much wheel spin even with the crap tires. For some reason the car just isnt at its best. Will the knock sensor show up on a computer, because i usually run a computer on the car once every 1-2 weeks. I know that i have the evap problem but i havent felt any performance loss from that, unless i just havent noticed it.

Yea Vigo is right. If it was a bad ks then you'd be running high 16s or even low 17s but your times aren't that off. It's just your mph and how little you gain in the last 1/8. If you were to gain say 18 instead of 15, I say you can see a 15.5.

Maybe get a tuneup: plugs, pcv, fuel filter...etc

The plugs are about 3 months old, awhile back i thought that was one of my problems but it was not. i need to change the fuel filter and pcv, that could be one part of the problem. Any body have any ideas as to why i finished faster in run #2 as opposed to run #4 where i started out faster, i thought that was my best run but it ended up slower, there is definately something wrong. i guess maybe i should do a full tune up, and clean the TB and everything.

1. Which plugs are you using?

2.You shouldn't need to change the PCV valve. Take it out and shake it. If you hear the ball inside moving, it's fine.

3. Check on replacing the knock sensor. You car seems like it's not producing a lot of power.

4. Did you reduce your cars weight?

1. Ill have to check this weekend, im at school for the week.
3. Will that show up on a computer? If not, how do i know to replace it?
4. I did not do too much weight reduction other than a sub box.

I think that the problem may be the ECU code that i am reading right now (small evap leak). I have been trying to fix it for a long time now but i dont get too much time to work on my car. What happens is when the car is in drive but stopped, the rpm's drop about 1-2 hundred. Then sometimes if i press the gas lightly it stutters a little as well. Any suggestions...
