Made my own ground kit

Hello,

Out of pure boredom and a spark of creativity, I decided to create my own ground kit. Thanks go out to Mr. Gone for giving me a hand with this.

Check out my site for pictures here: http://www.launch2k.com/maxima/groundkit/.

Please post your comments.

It's MrGone, not Mr. Gone

I'd also like to comment that on the 'Battery Terminal' page, I am not responsible for the large piece missing from very left of the positive terminal.
oh and site your sources for the 'diy info' page.

Aside from that, we used 15 feet of 8gauge wire.

yaayyyy!!!!! sparks are cool!!! yaayyyy! ...I swear I didn't mean to though.

When I was a senior so many years ago...I was taking the battery out of my Chevelle and I guess I wasnt paying attention. Well the wrench slipped a little and my hand (with my baseball state championship ring on it) got caught between the neg. lead and the pos. lead (with the wrench makeing the contact). This was only for a split second but it heated up my ring so bad that I still have a scar on that ring finger from it burning me. I also have 2 small chunks missing from the ring. You should have seen me flinging that ring off of my hand...its a wonder I found it.

I've heard of people using a wrench to tighten the terminals, and touching both posts-red hot wrench nearly instantly! Maybe they should redesign the battery tops/posts to make these kind of accidents less likely...maybe posts that are slots instead of exposed posts?? Better go patent this "million dollar idea"

So what happens if I put a wrench on both battery terminals and stick my tongue on it?

Lol...I'm just a cheap bastard and didn't have $55 bucks for a ground kit, otherwise I would have bought one.

However, with all these free horsepower mods, I'm beginning to notice my clutch is starting to slip more and more. I have a feeling that if I get a Ypipe or a UDP it'll slip even more.

Oh well, time for a new clutch & flywheel. Never a bad thing.

That's what happened to me the first time (and what is what MrGone was referring to in a post earlier). I accidentally let my socket wrench slip down and it bridged the two terminals to my battery. However, that was on my old battery and I think that was what finally killed it. MrGone however tried to kill my Optima and I quickly banned him from touching anything around it.

I hope it's ok.

you can't make flywheels, so buy mine.
I know what you mean on the ground kit. which is why I make all this stuff myself. then I learned that unless you have the proper tools and experience, it's often cheaper and easier just to buy it from someone else.
I'm too hard-headed and every time I needed to do something strange, I just bought the tools to do it myself. now I've got a garage full of oddball tools that hardly get used on my own car. now I sell my time to other people repairing their parts... i.e. the control arm bushings... ground kits... all the other stuff listed on my webpage (still under destruction. look for a new link soon. lotsa parts you didn't even know about!)

I'll probably be buying a flywheel from you soon enough, so just save one for me! (Control arm bushing are on their way out though, so might be doing those as well). =)

Fosgate, still doing 'em.. you pay for it, I make it when the money shows up.

Dave, I've got a few of the VE left, so don't worry about it. they're not going extremely quick.. but don't wait TOO long! I may get a bug up my **** and throw them all on ebay or something!

hit me up on the clutch too when you're ready for the job. I have a contact that I may be able to get an ACT for a good price.

clutch?

So you have a contact, eh? What would be your price, shipped to 98166 (ground, air, whatever, no time preference), for one of those?

Also, you're still at 350 shipped for a Fidanza?

You guys are lucky - when i was a mechanic a few years back, I saw a battery blow up in another mechanic's face because his wrench bridged both terminals. One heck of a bang & lucky for him he didn't suffer any acid scars.

SAFETY TIP: Always take off rings & watches and cover the battery terminals with a rag when working under the hood. When disconnecting a battery cable, cover the other post with a rag and take your time.
