Final Thought

Well the old thread was locked for some reason (Bye Bye Max, hello EVO)??? Not sure why since there is nothing wrong with some good friendly banter. Just wanted to post my reply to the many cool members who responded….

Thank you to many of you for the good wishes. Also thank you to the many PM to purchase my GR2’s, I will be PM’ing you all back, and the first person in my PM’s that said they wanted them will have first dibs.

For those of you who felt as though my tone was negative, I am sorry it was not meant that way. First please remember as I stated I will miss the Maxima, it was a great car. For me the frustration came from spending 28k on a car that I was in love with, and then to be so disappointed with all the issues. Yes, many were minor some were major (suspension), and yes, I did take the time and effort to try to get them fixed. Remember 8 trips to the dealer over 13 months (4 weeks w/out the car)! I put over 14 hours of my time into getting it corrected (no rentals provided). Perhaps I just got a bad car and my dealer sucked, it happens, and by all means it does not make all Maxima’s bad cars. Just VERY disheartening when the car of your dreams gives you 13 months of troubles. All cars have problems, it is how it is handled that makes the difference, Nissan just dropped the ball, and showed no caring for their good more then patient customer.

As far as the EVO goes looks are subjective, (many people think the rear of the 5th gen Max is very ugly) I like how the MAX looked, or I would not have purchased one. Please do your research as many publications around the world have put the EVO 8 in the top 5 cars in the world. The handling is amazing, the speed is sick (if you think it has no top end go take a ride in one), it is very comfortable, the ride is not that bad (better then a MAX w/Tiens). There is not a comparison between the EVO and the MAX, they are different cars built for different purposes. As a note most people on this board do nothing but try to make their Max faster and handle better, remember no matter how many mods (within mosts budgets) you do, it will not keep up w/a stock EVO (straight line, turns, or if the weather turns bad forget it). You must compare apples to apples (ex. Max v. Accord). The EVO is a worldwide legend in rally racing. I never viewed the Max as a racecar; it is a sports luxury car, and yes classy. Keep in mind a stock EVO will run 0-60 in less then 5 seconds and the ¼ in 13.5 without beating it, 13.2 if you really abuse it.

The STI is an unproven 2.5 that is having many issues and does not handle anywhere near as well as the EVO for 5k more? No brainer there! The SRT-4, yes fast in a straight line, but try a turn, or you want to talk about cheap build quality. In addition, the EVO does not have a big *** turbo, again please do your research.

Bottom line; get what you like a hope for the best! I wish you all many great years with your MAX, you all have a car to be proud of. Lets us just hope Nissan learns from Infinity who really does an excellent job in satisfying their customers! If Nissan would have just called me back to show they care, I would not have an EVO in my garage...

You could at least post a couple pics of the EVO, or give the link to your cardomain site if you have one yet. Good luck.

SRT-4 isn't in the same catagorey as the STi and EVO. It's competition (the SRT-4's) is the Sentra SER Spec V, Mazdaspeed Protege, Civic Si, Focus SVT, Celica GTS-S, and at a stretch, the RSX-S.

Good luck!!

And cars are relative to the people who drive them. I think you can tell a lot about a person by the kind of car they drive (status, speed, looks). And I can relate to some of the problems you listed in the orginal thread. Regardless, I think we all want a car that works and runs great all the time. Unfortunately, regardless of what kind of car you get, some work really well while other have problem. Just dumb luck I guess...

ok i know that the evo and the sti are amazing cars.....and dont get me wrong i wouldnt mind having one.....but for some reason i hate them....i know i know...these cars are already factory modified.....so to me what the hell is the purpose of people putting mods on them....the reason y i picked the maxima was bc it was a car that i could picture modifying....to see ur car become a dream car is an amazing feeling...i had a car like that but then i crashed it so i know what im talking about....but wheres the fun of modifying an evo or sti....around me only hardass rich kids own them....and they dont know **** about cars...i cant wait till my car gets past that 300 mark so then i can **** on those posers.....just venting some anger ( i was smoked by an sti the other day)...but hey good luck wit the evo

the only true competitors(in category) to the SRT-4 would be the boosted ones:
Golf/GTI/Jetta 1.8T , Mazdaspeed Protege, SVT
