New best and some heartbreak
New best and some heartbreak
Today I ran a new best, but I only improved a mere .05
I swear my luck just sucks.
1) I had to run with over a 1/2 tank of gas because the wife was being nice and accidently filled my tank while I was out of town so I was only able to burn off 1/2 before racing today.
2) The track was out of race gas because the season will be done in a few weeks.
3) It was nearly 70 degrees and 65% humidity which is close to a record. For much of the past week it had been in the 40s, go figure.
Track and Setup:
KCIR (1100'), sunny, high of 70, 30.0 baropressure, light cross wind, 1/2 tank of 92, 5300rpm MEVI switchover, 15" sawblades with new Sumitomos, hacked airbox/midpipe, MEVI, y-pipe, UDP, JWT ECU, 2k muffler, struts to max firmness, passenger seat removed.
Runs 1 and 2:
My first two runs straight off the highway with a baking motor netted low 14.6s@96mph with 2.25 60 foots. I was about ready to kill someone. Once again my Max is stuck in the 14.6s
Run 3:
I let the car cool down for about 45 minutes and got the intake manifold to just around hot. This time I ran a 14.53@96.2mph with a 2.21 60'. Okay, that made feel better. Now I finally was getting back to normal.
Run 4:
With a hotlapped motor, I rolled up again. This time I ran a 14.40@97.1mph with a 2.20 60'. I was definately happy to see the 14.4s again and finally a new PB even though is was only 0.05 better.
Run 5:
With the motor cooled down to mildly warm I ended up pulling a 14.48@97.8mph with terribly weak 2.35 60'!!!!! This one killed me, but got me pumped up because it seemed like the longer the car was able to cool, the quicker it was getting.
Run 6 The heartbreak run:
With a mildly warm motor, I rolled up, staged, and gave all she had. Wheel hop was pretty bad thru most of 1st and when I went to grab 2nd, I missed it!!! I got the slip and I pulled my first ever 2.1 60' (2.18). I ended up with a 14.8@94mph
This was incredibly dissappointing and I couldn't go again because the track was closing in 10 minutes and the line was too long. Oh the possibilities.
Overall, I was pretty happy. My trap speeds weren't great, but they were pretty normal for the most part. Seeing how my car was getting quicker with a cooled down motor suggests to me that race gas would have helped me like it had in the past. Today was the first time I've ever gotten 14.4-14.5 without race gas. On my first two runs I tried launching at 1500-2000rpms like everyone else seems to be able to do and pull low 2.2s and mid 2.1s. Well, it me helped get mid 2.2s, but it forced my car to labor is first too long. My car must be a pig because when I started using my old routine of a 4000rpm launch with a quick clutch slip, my 60 foots dropped for the most part and my 1/4 improved significantly.
Until next season (March 1), I guess. Hopefully I'll have some drag radials and a new resonated b-pipe by then.

Wow, go figure you get your personal best 60ft and its a screwed up run, thats about my luck. I havent seen a 2.11 (my PB) 60ft since mid july, cant break out of the high 2.2-2.3s with these Yokos for the life of me...
Track season is just really starting here since its beautiful weather in the winter time. Track conditions till mid december should be around 60-65 during mid day and 40s at night.
I cant wait to head back to the track, though i need my exhaust finished, bottle filled, new tires (preferably slicks) and such...

Damn dave, it must be frustrating. Congrats on the PB, but it has to be somewhat good to know you s have not gotten the perfect run out of the car yet. My first 2.1x I missed second too!

I always run the best in the early spring because the temps are usually low and the same goes for humidity. Hopefully I'll have some DRs on Millenia wheels by then. 13s or bust
Dave
got you guys on the n/a list ! im thinking we could go in together on a super charger/ turbo. then we could take turns using it. What do you think dave ? Since Mike has the best et he can use it during the summer ! HA HA !
its really sad, something like this would complete my max but i dont see it happening.
great times !

Now that search is turned off the server is finally quick enough that I'll be able to knock out the 1/4 mile timeslip queue which is rather long.
Congrats on the new PB Dave! you'll get it. Yeah, it's a good thing the season is over. Having dreams? oh my!
