Replace Injen CAI filter with K&N filter?
Replace Injen CAI filter with K&N filter?
I want to replace my Injen filter with a K&N filter. I took the filter off today and went to Autozone and Advance Auto Parts, but the filters they had didn't have any rubber ring on the filter for the hose clamp to sit on. I didn't get one because I thought it wouldn't make an airtight seal without being clamped.
I know other people have switched filters on their Injen CAIs, but how?

Universal 3" cone filter from K&N if you dont like the Injen unit. Although, the flow #'s are about the same. The monsterflow is good too.
K&N RU-2820 filter. It has a 3" Inlet, the filter is 6.5" long and the filter diameter is 5".\
K&N for about $50, and should see the filter on there for the life of the car. The part # on the filter is RR-3001 (Red), RR-3002 (Blue), RR-3003 (Polished)

lol... 2k2Wannabe: I started that thread you saved on your computer awhile ago~
(Definitly informative though)
white95Max: I ordered it from one of the affiliate of K&N website, I got the model #RR-3001, has a inverted design (filter on the side, and inverted design filter on top, unlike the original Injen one only has filter on the side) I don't remember the exact length, width, and height. But you can find all that on K&N website. The filter was a bit bigger than the Injen one in both width and height, but not by a whole lot (Perfect fit).
In terms of performance, don't know if there was HP gain, In my opinion I'm going to say 1Hp gain over the Injen filter (Just because I think it has, feel free to use the slap on the head icon if you want)
Due to better design and more direct flow of the air. But DEFINITLY lighter effort on the throttle and slightly louder compare to Injen filter (maybe because it was dirty? (about 18K miles on it b4 I changed it to K&N)
Lastly, I spend about $50 Dollars on it, you can also look into model #RU-2820, its just like Injen filter but LONGER, maybe a tad wider. I think someone on .org used this filter on their Injen too, I was debating on which of these two to get, but went to the RR-3001 b/c I think the Inverted design is better, just my opinion.

, but I definitly think its better than original Injen filter.
I have just installed the K & N RU 2820. Has a lot more surface area than the stock Injen and it fits perfectly. asu174 tried this filter and started a thread in the 5th gen forum

My stock filter only had about 4000 miles on it and was still pretty clean, but the new one seems to provide smoother and more seamless power....maybe because of the larger surface area? $35 from my local Auto Zone.

Also I heard good thins about Green Performance filter, but its too hard for me to get from the internet. Like $5 more than K&N similar model, and only their direct website sells it. NONE of my local auto part store carries it. I would also see someone use a different filter besides using K&N all the time
