Service Light on again. A lil help any one?

Well my Service Engine Soon light cam eon again and i was hoping for alil advice.

Although i drive hard i still take care of MaX very well so i dont think its anything too serious. What im hoping is that my MaX is just warning me that its almost time for a service like it does at certain mileage. I am at 43K miles.

Does this seem like it could be the problem?! I dont hear anything odd or feel any problems and i def turn my gas tank **** till it clicks so i dotn get any O2 sensors going off.

Thanx for the help fellas.

the cel went off because something failed to operate properly. it will never act as a warning for service to be done like on some hondas where it tells you service is due. turning the gas **** has nothing to do with o2 sensors. if the cap is loose then the lack of pressure will set off the cel. your best best is to get the code pulled by autozone for free or have a shop pull it for you.

thanx for the advice. i thought that stuff was true. i heard it from a friend who works in the srvice dept for nissan. as for the gas ****, what u sed it what i meant.

One thing tho, is something failed to operate properly and the service engine light went on then do i really want to have a shop jus reset the thing?! is that what u mean by having the code pulled?

i love cars, especially my max, but i dont no sh*t bout mechanical things.

thanx again

you will have to pull the code to indicate whats not working. then the repair should be done and the light should be reset by the person doing the repair. if you reset the light w/o the repair, the ecu will just cycle the code out again and the cel will come back on.

I would bring it in the the Auto Zone and tell them that you need your code pulled to find out exactly what part you need to buy there (AutoZone).

The Auto Zone in somerville also does not have a Service Dept. Someone who works behind the counter will grab the Diagnostic tool and come out to the car and pull the code. It only takes 2 minutes.........I also called the one in Somerville and the said the same thing but when I brought it in the we happy to pull the codes for me.

the crankcase capacity is 4.25 quarts. i typically put back 4 since i change them on ramps and cant possibly get all the old out. whoever said it takes 6 then stay away from in the future. are you getting about the same mileage you had before the light went on? im thinking it might be an o2 sensor which would trigger the light but if you dont pay attention to gas mileage then you might not ever know. i would try bringing it to autozone again and have the code pulled.

i had the exact same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. Car was right at about 42k. Went to autozone and guy said the code he pulled is very often associated with hard start or bad tank of gas. He reset the light and whaddya know, it came back on the next day. I was scheduled to go in to Nissan for service anyways. I told them not to check it cause I didn't want to pay the $80, but they did anyways. (Ended up being free). They told me it was due to some additive in the gas out here (I have a cali vehicle) and reset the ecu. Been good so far. I wouldn't be surprised if you are having the exact same problem. Good luck!!

Two weeks ago a girl "didn't see a red light or me" and busted my 2k1 right in the rear passenger tire. Hosed up my door and 1/4 panel. A week later the damned SES light is on. Could the shock of the accident have caused any issues? I've read here about the MAS but the car still drives decent and it getting around normal gas mileage.

BTW: It's in the shop for repair now and I have a 2k4 rental! I'm driving it like I stole it and it's taking it like a champ.

I had the SES light come on my car a few weeks ago. I went to Autozone and they pulled the code for free. Got a P0240 and (P0430 IIRC). I'm paraphrasing now, but they had to do w/ a bad catalytic converter. I did some research and it turned out there was a TSB for the codes. At 55k miles, I took the car into the dealership and they reflashed the ECU... then after additional testing decided the cat was bad as well. All replaced under warranty since it had to do w/ emissions controls. There was absolutely no noticable difference between the cars performance pre-fix and post-fix.

BTW, for you Phoenix area folks, the new Peoria Nissan dealership is awesome.

while its in the shop, they should hook up a OBD-II diagnostic tester and pull the code. if you doubt the will, then ask them to do it as they responsible for repairing the vehicle. i doubt its the maf, because when it goes, then you will not be able to rev the motor over 3k.

so is this an easy problem to fix so that i can bring it to any shop? or should i take it to a nissan dealer? if its easy enuff any shop would b cool cause my dad is friends with like 5 different guys who own shops so i could save a few bucks but at the same time i want whats best for my ride.

you will probably have to pick the sensor up from nissan or one of the contacts around here such as dave b who will most likely get the best price around. changing an o2 is a simple job and can be done by any half decent mechanic. when they pulled the code, it should have given a specific number to indicate which of the 4 o2 sensors failed on your 01.
