Nissan Extended Warranty

I had my 02 SE in at Nissan service today for a couple of items - the 2000 RPM vibration (gas pedal primarily) that many people have noticed, and the fluttering hood problem at highway speed. They called me back and said that the adhesive that bonds the cross braces along the underside of the hood seperated, and that the hood was vibrating against those cross braces. They felt that was causing the fluttering hood AND the 2000 RPM vibration (they are also aware of the fluttering hood TSB). He quoted a price of about $240 to basically glue the braces and the hood back together.

I reminded him that I have the Gold extended warranty (10 years/100,000 miles with $50 deductible). He said he checked with Nissan and that wouldn't be covered. "It's one of those grey areas" is what he told me.

When the dealer I bought the car from sold me the extened warranty, the finance manager made a point of saying that it covered everything "from bumper to bumper" except for normal wear items like brakes etc (he even made a joke that the bumpers aren't really covered because damage to them would be from an accident).

Obviously I'm going to be giving that guy a call to find out what's up. Anyone else find that the extended warranty didn't cover items which seem like they should have been?

It would be interesting to hear if anyone else experiencing the 2000 RPM vibration has their hood seperating from the cross braces as well. I believe you would have to remove the underhood insulation to get to it.

Thanks

technically, you could sue the fin manager and get your money back if you are able to prove that he said "everything is covered". I hate those *****! Before you buy/sign for everything, READ the damn contract

Did you see that episode where Homer has a crayon stuck in his brain? He's like, "Extended Warranty... how can I lose?"

Extended Warranty is a big scam! I mean, its such a hassle to claim the original warranty, why would anyone want to extend it, that too with Nissan?

Nighthawk750, when you purchased the Gold warranty, the manager should have given you a booklet... it should list hundreds of parts covered under the Ext. Warranty. If the part they are replacing on your car is not listed there then your Ext. Warranty won't cover it.

I'd recommend checking out warrantydirect.com. They're a big name in the extended warranty business and are registered with the better business bureau. I just purchased a 5 yr. 100k no deductible bumper to bumper extended warranty for my '03. And here is the best part about going w/ warranty direct vs. nissan's extended: You can avoid crappy nissan service all together and get your car serviced wherever you like!!

When I checked the prices were pretty comparable. The later you buy an extended warranty, the higher the price gets. Check out warrantydirect's website - they'll give you the quote online.

TSBs list the parts that are needed to remedy problems. the fact that they are telling you that they "don't know about the TSB" may "exempt" them from warranty service.

I take it you are no longer covered by 3yr/36k?

Doesn't sound like pinging - the whole engine just becomes a little "coarse" sounding - a little like a 4 cylinder. Above and below 2000 rpm it's incredibly smooth.

I've got the same warranty and they told me the same damn thing, everything was covered bumper to bumper. I read the "What's covered warranty book and it's BS it says in one section that it's covered and then in another it says it's not covered. I had to replace my struts recently and one dealership found nothing wrong while the other fixed it with a $50 deductible. I did bring my car back for the tranny slipping TSB. But that was still covered under 36K. In my opinion for the amount of money I spent on the warranty it really isn't worth it since it's not really "bumper to bumper."
