tire warranty question

i bought dunlop sports A2s april of this year from sears auto center. tires have a 50,000 mile warranty. well i have only put about 16,000 miles on them and they are almost bald!!!! im P!SSED!!! i got my rotors turned at the same place last week and the guy said i REALLY needed new tires. i said, "no ****, they wore out way to quick. how does the warranty work?" he said "get some new tires and we will work something out" HELL NO!! i have 34,000 miles of the warranty left
shouldnt they have to replace the tires free of charge?? isnt that what the warranty is for? im pretty sure its a dunlop warranty not sears. so is sears just trying to make money off of me? i couldnt find warranty info on dunlops site.
any advice would help

Good luck. You're going to need it to get any action. I've never heard of a tire guaranteed to last for any amount of time. Sounds like you're confused about the manufacture's mileage 'rating'(expected useful life) or a mileage warranty against defects in workmanship.

You should have received a contact number for Dulop when you got the tires. If there is a warrentty, and there may be, you contact Dunlop and they prorate the cost of a new tire. What they do is figure how much use you got out of the tires, 16,000 miles, and give you a discount on new dunlops to make up for the fact that you didn't get the full 50,000 miles out of them. Call Dunlop and they should make things right.

On a side note, I just replaced my Toyos with Kumho HP4 716 which come with a 50,000 mile warrenty. Only $65 each, great ride, and great comments on Tire Rack. Had them drop shipped from Tire Rack to my local shop and they put them on. Much better than going to the big retailers IMO.

so the warranty is if something happens to the tire? then they replace it. it doesnt cover the tread being gone in 16,000 miles?? bastards

I got 2 new front tires from sear too. Yokahamas ... wore out in 6 months. they didnt replace them, I tried to get them to replace due to warranty but no luck.

So i went to COSTCO instead. and got four new tires. - GOOD PRICES and LIFE TIME BALANCE AND ROTATION .

SEARS AUTO will never have my business again. Sorry to hear about your situation, i feel ya.

I heard some feedback on the Dunlop Sport A2's. Owners of these tires complained of them wearing out fast. I had bought these for my '95, but never got to install them, because I ended up selling the car. It may be the rubber compound that the tires are made of, that's making them wear fast.

Soonerfan, I'm assuming from your location that you went to the Fair Oaks Mall Sears? Anyhow, talk to a guy there named Quinn....I recently bought my Falkens there and he did a nice job making phone calls and finding out and expediting the backorder on the 512's...seems like a stand-up guy...maybe he can help you out or at least give you a good answer to your problem...

What kind of case are you going to make? The tire company can say you burned the tires up with a heavy right foot(not saying you did). That's why I can't imagine them covering tread-wear. They'd go out of business.

Yeah, tire warrenties are against failure, not against tread wear.
However, most shops will do a prorated exchange, where they will give you a balance of the expected life towards new tires. Did this on my old supra, but I had bought like 5 sets of tires from the place and it was locally owned. Hard to push around someone like sears.
That's why I deal with locally owned shops whenever I can. Those places understand that repeat business == a good business.
