Clutch Idea (sort of)
I was driving may car to work one day with my new work boots and found that they were too wide for me to depress the clutch completely. I was a little worried about not being able to depress the clutch enough but I had no problems. However at the depth I was able to depress it the engagement point was less than an inch or maybe a cm away. So in effect it shortened the clutch throw. As soon as I realized that it appeared to be okay (no grinding /no abnormal resistance) I got to thinking about some of the other things people have done to try to reduce clutch throw such as unscrewing something but it was decried as bad for the clutch due to the possibility of it always being in a "depressed" mode. The idea I though about was an adjustable stop plate (under the pedal inside the car) for the clutch so that when you depress the clutch it goes down no more than necessary. It could also be adjustable keeping clutch wear and getting a new clutch in mind. It seems like a fairly simple solution to the problem but then again I honestly dont know much about it. It could be that for the stock clutch it needs that extra throw to completely disengage the dog teeth or perhaps give the synchronizers some extra time I dunno. If this idea has been stated before then I apoligize and humbly request that you judge me lightly. ANd if that is the case hopefully this thread gets pushed down ot the bottom quickly and never resurrected.
Remember, the clutch is not 100% mechanical. In the sense that the pedal controls the master cylinder and from there it controls the slave cylinder which has a small piston that pushing against the throwout bearing rod.
You are somewhat right in that we can shorten the clutch throw because the piston on the slave cylinder is fully out i think when the clutch is about 3/4 or so pressed. Now if you reduce the clutch pedal throw that much, then you also have to relocate the ignition activation switch on the back of the clutch
That switch, which you know, controls the ingition start. So that would have to be relocated as well. To make a plate can be done, but making one that adjusts the pedal and the switch is not easy.
