Oxygen Sensor Question

Does the sensor read during WOT or is it bypassed? I've heard different things from different people so far........

At large throttle openings, the ECU goes intot what is called "open loop mode"

In this mode, the ECU only relies on the MAF to calculate AF ratios. It does not read the O2 sensors.

So if I'm throwing a CEL for the o2 sensor only at WOT, should I be looking into the MAFS as well?
