Amp wiring question

Hello,

I am planning to install the following system in a 2k3 max non-bose.

Rockford Fosgate 801X
60.5 Kappas components front
65.2 Kappas coax in the rear
(1) 10"-12" single sub in the back
50x4 HU
Amp Kit
Wiring Harness for HU
Speaker Harness for HU
Scosche Kit for HU

I have a few questions on the installation.

1. Can I purchase something like the Rockford Fosgate 801x (100x4) and power the entire system including the sub? if so, where can I get a diagram of the wiring?

2. Do I have to worry about the alternator not being able to keep up the power demand?

2. My headunit has 200W output. Is this power good for anything? I was thinking of running the rear Kappas off the HU and using 2 of the amp channels to drive the sub in the back. Is this a good idea? Can a 50x4 amp be compared to a 50x4 headunit?

3. Any recommendations on the sub/enclosure? I don't want to loose my truck space with the sub. This may be the last piece I purchase after I see how the rest of the system does w/o it.

4. I am assuming that the rear speakers on the 2k3 max are 6 1/2. Is this correct?

I am buying most of the above from Ikesound. Any comments on this vendor? Their stuff looks very inexpensive but they would void the warranty on anything unless it is installed by a professional.

Thanks,

Mike

1) I have a Phoenix Gold 4 channel amp. Front two channels running my 6.5 front speakers, rear two channels bridged running my single JL 10w3. Your amp should have instructions on how to wire it that way. It is pretty straightforward.

2a)I have a similar set up in my 3rd gen and have good sound and no problems with my alternator. If you are worried about that, get a capacitor.

2b)I have hooked up Infinity 6x9s in the rear running off the rear two channels of my Alpine HU (I think its peak wattage is 45x4). They are for "rear fill." I can hear it, but it is very obviously not as loud (or as clear) as my front speakers running off the amp.

3)Enclosures depend on the kind of bass you prefer. I like my sealed box, but there are other options (bandpass, ported, vented, etc.) If you are worried about space, try to do some research and find a sub that uses a small amount of airspace. If you have deep pockets, I think there are "stealth" enclosures that take up very little space and are available for 4th and 5th gen Maximas.

4) I believe so, but go to www.crutchfield.com and they can point you in the right direction on the size of speakers and sometimes even the right mounting depth (for door speakers).

5) I've never purchased anything from Ikesound, but I have read that they are pretty good about getting orders right, etc. I think most online sellers are kind of shaky about returns if you don't have it professionally installed.

Well, I'll giva a couple of your questions a shot...

1. Can I purchase something like the Rockford Fosgate 801x (100x4) and power the entire system including the sub? if so, where can I get a diagram of the wiring?

With this amp I think the only way you could wire the whole system is to power some of the full range speakers with the power from the headunit. Unless of course you wire both left and right speakers to a channel but the you would lose the front/rear seperation.

2. My headunit has 200W output. Is this power good for anything? I was thinking of running the rear Kappas off the HU and using 2 of the amp channels to drive the sub in the back. Is this a good idea? Can a 50x4 amp be compared to a 50x4 headunit?

A 50x4 amp would have a much cleaner sound than a 50x4 headunit. You could definately wire it this way and there is no way to tell how it would sound unless you do it. As it was mentioned before the rears are mostly for fill so it may work fine for what you want.

3. Any recommendations on the sub/enclosure? I don't want to loose my truck space with the sub. This may be the last piece I purchase after I see how the rest of the system does w/o it.

The sub enclosure has a lot to do with personal preferance. generally a sealed enclosure is the smallest i believe. A sealed enclusure provides a tighter bass. Ported enclosures are generally larger and the provide a boomier, i guess is how you could put it, bass. There are also some subs that are designed to operate in a free air enviroment. I don't have much experience on those other than the stock sub with the bose system, but the definately take up less room.

Hope this helps some.

any box can be small, but u just need to incorporate the right amount of air space for the subwoofer, be sure to do that, u could surely use the 4 channel amp to power up ur entire system ,and i would suggest running the rear speakrs off of the head unit, that way u can have two channels of the amp on the front's, and the two other channels of ur amp powering up a sub.

subs are more personal preferences for the most part
