I need to get a ECU for my 97 in order to pass Cali smog. The problem is with the "Service Engine Soon" light. It was an auto and was converted to 5 Speed. My smog guy said he could pass me if I brought him another 97 and paid him a little extra, but I would much rather fix the problem. I have found many ECUs for around $80-$300 so that is good enough for me. My questions are, is ther a difference between Cali Spec and Non-Cali spec? I do not have any manuals for this car, can someone provide me with a part number? Is there anything else I should look out for?

Question is: is your car Cali-spec? I'm not sure that it is...I believe the 99s were the only ones that they differentiated between cali and fed spec.

 

I am not sure, it is a cali car, but if the 99's were the only ones, then that is good.

 

Anyone happen to know the 97 SE 5 speed ECU part number?

 

I thought I had read about people figuring a way around the auto tranny signal so that the SES didnt come on?
