blue smoke out of my max

Hey i have 96 maxima GLE and was home from school for the holiday. I needed my oil changed and didnt have any time so i took it too the local mechanic shop(with whom i am very good friends with) and let them change it (mobile1 5w-30). I didnt think of checking the oil after they changed it so i drove it around for a couple of days and as i was getting ready to go back to school i started my car and a lot of blue smoke was coming out of the exhaust. The car has never burned oil and has never smoked anything, you can run your finger in the exhaust pipe and get very little residue on your hand. My dad and i checked the oil and it seemed too full, so we drained the oil and changed it again. After we drained the oil we found that their was half a quart too much oil than what is specified in the manual. After we changed the oil the car stopped smoking considerably and after the drive to school it stopped smoking completely. i wouldnt think that half a quart would make the car do that. Also, when we drained the oil the oil looked a little darker than what new mobile one oil should look like. Do any of you know why my car would have done this and have i done any damage to my car? I have no mods on my car, it is bone stock. Thanks for your help.

Not too sure about the smoke part but as for the color and extra oil maybe the filter wasn't changed? This would explain the darker oil (since the new is mixed in with the old) and some extra oil.

i know that he changed the filter so that wasnt the problem but if its not smoking anymore is there any easy way to see if the seals are still leaking. Or is it that once the seals leak they are always going to leak?

compersion test is pretty easy to do, just find an article how about how to do it right so you know what is messed up if anything is.
