check alldata.com, and you need to be a little more specific with the years

alternator...if you have a silver sticker located on the top of the alternator, it's defective. Go to the dealership and ask them to change it out, they'll do it for free.

Generally most recalls are VIN specific and not year specific (but usually fall in the same year) so the only thing you could do is call up a few dealerships and have them run a check on it. The reason I say call a few, is because some are dishonest and say that you don't have any just so they won't work on your car for free

Call up some dealerships and have them run a check on my vin # or state the specific problem and give them my vin # and see if its an recall?

Yea, just say that you think there's a recall and ask them to verify it with your VIN

on the alldata.com website, even when i clicked my year, it had bulletins back into the 80s. Are the only bulletins that apply to me are the ones made in 99?

Good question. I believe that all recalls for the 4th gen are posted on the nissan website somewhere. I did a search on google a while back and all I got were comments such as:

"I have read about the Nissam Maxima's Service Engine Soon light on on
this news group. There are many related problems that caused this
light on. For instance, 02 sensor, ignition coil, etc... Most cars
have this problem after put 50,000 miles on it. Replace these parts
are not cheap, I just wonder that has Nissan redesigned to make these
parts (02 sensor and ignition coil) last longer? "

That is so true! I am very p!ssed off at Nissan. Ignition coils break down way too frequently and should have been recalled among all other components!!! GRRRRR! These suckers are expensive too ($70-100 a coil, DAMN!) so no wonder Nissan doesn't want to recall them because an average consumer must pay an incredible $550 replacing all six coils!!!!!

However, judging from the responses to the above-listed comment I take it that the contemporary Nissan ignition coils for the 4th gen are no more defective. Here's a sample:

"You're right. The ignition coil has been re-designed for all Maxima
after 2001. Nissan admitted a defect in the old coil. I found this
info after talking with a Parts Sale and Service at a Nissan Dealer.
He also shows me the new part # that has been changed in his computer
database."

Another one...

"The failing ignition coils was a defect (vendor issue)that has been
corrected. "

I don't exactly know how this recall thing works, but I'm guessing that if everyone got together and stepped up, maybe Nissan would have no choice but to recall the 4th gen coils, what do you guys think???

someone should call one of those news station buyer beware or consumer alert departments...would be interesting. i can just picture it "we tried to get in touch with nissan rep's but they all declined comment"
