Best bang for the buck.......

A friend of mine is buying a Maxima and wants to know what mod yields the best results for the price. I couldn't really decide for myself so I figured I'd ask.

a used y-pipe + a used K&N filter will give you decent performance.

IMO used products are great off many orgers. most of them are very trustworthy. (i.e. my y-pipe + muffler.)

I voted for the y-pipe and intake, but on second thought I think improving the handling first makes more sense. That makes the car more fun to drive all the time, not just when you're WOT.

you're comparing apples to oranges here... does your friend want performance? handling?

you can't say any one mod is better than any mod that serves a completely different purpose.

C'mon, get used to it, American market research is just like that!

I would say dual exhausts and HID's that are jerry-rigged are a good way to spend a lot of money and yield imaginary results...you know, the proverbial self-pat on the back.

If he meant performance I'd say trading in a Maxima and buying a RS-X Type S would be the best way to get it.

Yes, he does have some questionable combos there.

Of course to some, this thread is just amusing, to others, its just frustrating.

probably the best combo of all of those (for bang for the buck) would be a Y pipe and Nos

Wow, such negativity for such a simple request. I can't say I'm surprised. All I asked for was a vote, no more, no less, yet some people choose to turn a completely harmless poll into a group of insults and for what reason?? To insult my intellegence maybe?? Or is it to make yourself look "big"?? Hmmm, I guess it doesn't matter. Fact is I'm a little dissappointed with the comradery of some folks especially since this is supposed to be a place where people with a common interest come to share ideas of a positive nature. Maybe I'm wrong. I guess I'll be careful next time......

atleast i said something constructive y pipe is cheap enough if you go budget and makes the difference. and nos is also a lot of bang for not that large of a price tag. Many people who daily drive their maxima would prefer to have a bottle of nos waiting in the trunk, than constantly on boost from a turbo or especially a SC. the y pipe is a simple new guy mod, and nos is a little more for when he gets bored with the car.

Struts and springs. Every time they look at it or take a corner they'll feel like it was money well spent. 4x4 =

CAI was my first mod, and it did make a difference, also sounds good. The Y-pipe was the next thing I did, and I think there was more notable change from the intake.

Are you seriuos!?!? I felt a small boost on the low end with my CAI, but the Y-pipe was more noticeable. Hell I keep switching between hybrid and CAI cause I think the CAI on one hand stifles the top end but gives low end ummph. The differences between intakes set ups are negligable when it comes to performance gains, but the looks and sound are what makes them different from each other.

1) Drop it with struts and springs
2) Y-pipe
3) Enjoy

I think the more appriopriate question, rather than "best bang for the buck" would be "which mods to do first", in which case I'd go with springs struts and RSB. The car already does pretty well in a straight line but the handling of a stock max sucks. I did supsension first and I would do it again.

After that I would do Y pipe and intake, then if he wants more he should decide whether to get nitrous or an ECU, or both. Still more? UDP and catback.

Just tune them out man! Do what I do, as soon as I start seeing **** or some type of masking, I don't even read the post and skip to the next possible good one. That usually means the reply or post has very little to no intelligence whatsoever, so much for the person that posted it in the first place. You can decide who's opinion to listen to or not. Not all of us in here have good writting skills nor certain ways of expressing concerns by written words so just dump the insults in the proverbial trash. Because if someone or anyone is really inclined to help, it doesn't matter how you asked a question, the answers or replies will be accompanied by thoughtfulness not bashing.

I voted.

My first mod on the car that was cheap and effective was an intake on ebay. I replaced the cheap filter with a K&N. Really effective and loud.
Then go with suspension upgrade: It's not the cheapest but it will make your car look alot better lower to the ground. Plus if you have aftermarket rims the 4x4 effect will not be there anymore.

Oh and a y-pipe is good and cheap too.

a new intake isnt really "effective" and makes just about no gains. if effectiveness is based upon tons more noise, then maybe its a good mod

um...wrong again. cold air intake has longer piping than stock, so it helps with cold air at low end...but all that extra tubing makes it harder for your car to "breath" at high speed. a pop charger allows hotter air into the engine at low speed, and that makes it harder for your car to "breath" too. get your facts straight
