Help! Skyline-style bumper fitment issues
Help! Skyline-style bumper fitment issues
i've got the fiberglass "skyline" front bumper from redlinemax.com for my 98. my body shop called me today and said that it won't fit. i headed on up there and sure enough, it's got some issues. the guy at the body shop said that you need to take some off of the actual bumper (the beam, aka "I-rod) to get it to fit. so we took the beam entirely off of there so that it wouldn't be a problem. well, we put the bumper up to the front and when you angle it enough to work the passenger side of the lip so it fits/forms around the fender, there's a huge gap and fitment problem on the driver's side. well, after that, we also found that it doesn't line up on the top side of the bumper at all. there seems to be a gap under the headlights. i talked to angela, who referred me to her body shop guy, kevin. they were very helpful. kevin gave me some words on how they usually install these. has anyone else got this bumper and had some problems getting it on there? i asked them if it could be a bad piece. they said that every one of the 200+ they've sold have come from the same mold, and that couldn't be the problem.
any help would be appreciated so i can get my new bumper on and my car back together. thanks!
btw, their carbon fiber hood had no fitment problems whatsoever... and do i love how that carbon fiber looks on my car

thanks, i know it's fiberglass. but due to insurance/financial reasons from the damaged parts from a car accident, well, long story. i know polyeurathane is better, but unfortunately, it wasn't an option. i'd just like some assistance in getting this to fit please!!
This isn't what you want to hear, but if it doesnt fit, it doesnt fit. You can't just magically make it fit without doing some body work and molding it. Ange's pretty good about returns on this stuff, but it'll cost you 100 just to ship the bumper back to her.
95nissanmax, did you end up getting it to fit? if so, how?
1max2nv, the shop was going to do some more work on it tonight and try to "massage" it into place. i believe the methods you mentioned were on the agenda.
in any case, i'd rather get this right the first time, not pay $100 to ship it back....

yeah, i know, fiberglass is bad and my car is ricey
i'm not concerned with the criticism of my car, i'd just like to get some input on my issue at hand please.
for those of you that have the same bumper, did you have any fitment problems?

Yeah, I didn't get it from Ange, but I had issues, too. May be different from Custom Maxima but I had to take a sledge hammer and knock the I rod down for the top to fit right under the headlights. After I did that everything else kinda went into place. Had the same issues with the sides but we just kept working with it until we got it tot where I could live with it. Still not perfect but it's not molded either. Definitely a two man job. (At least)
