is it difficult to install a fidanza flywheel provided you have a lift and all the right tools and such which i do? how many hours would it take....what kinda of problems do you think I would run in to or have to watch out for because I have never installed a flywheel before? any writeups? Is it any harder than a clutch install or easier? about 3hrs or 4 hrs hopefully!

How do any of you like the fidanza flywheel?

 

I installed my ACT Clutch and Fidanza Flywheel yesterday. Took me 7 hours from opening the hood to driving it off. It was three of us working on it. I did all this work in a my uncles garage with the car a on lift and all tools available.

As far as installing the flywheel is concerened, I had a little trouble because the fit had a slight intereference. Other than, it was fairly smooth. I had never done a front wheel drive clutch change before, but did have experience on a couple of rear wheel drive car clutch changes. I also changed both drive axles (CV half shafts) since they needed to be replaced. That added about an hour of time.

how'd you get past the interference issue....? and so it doesn't quite perfectly fit? the fidanza right?

 

the center bore clearance of the flywheel is a really tight fit on the crank shaft. Mine fit easly though.

 

Think about it for a min. It probably only takes maybe another 1/2 hour to do a flywheel while doing a clutch. BUT you can't minus the clutch labor from a flywheel job. Because you HAVE TO take off the clutch assembly to get at the flywheel. Look in the 3-gen stickies and research the clilton's online repair. 90% of your questions here (and in your PMs to me) can be answered there.

 

we changed my friend's flywheel and clutch in about 5 hours. we could have probably done it in 3 hours, but it was our first time and we took our time. procedure is:
pull drive shafts out of tranny
disconnect starter and all the wires and stuff
undo transmission mount
take off cross member (optional, makes getting to some bolts easier, but we managed w/o doing this) while holding engine up w/jack
remove bell housing bolts
lower trans
if you are changing clutch you change the clutch
if you are doing flywheel too, remove flywheel bolts
if the flywheel doesn't have the timing ring, you need to take that off of your stock flywheel and install it on the new one.
put everything back in reverse
