blinking OD light
here's the story: i actually posted this awhile ago, but my 96 auto got stuck in 2nd gear awhile back. after i shut the car off and turned it back on, the OD light blinked a bunch of times but i didnt count it. so now it happened again yesterday and when i started the car again the OD light blinked 16 times. does anyone know what this means? i really wished the search feature still worked.....

95-97 models
Start engine warm to operating temp
turn ignition to the off position, wait at least five seconds
turn ignition to acc postion
put the overdrive switch in the on position
move shifter to the p position
turn ignition to on position, but dont start the engine
overdrive off indicator shoudl come on for about two seconds
if light dosent come one there somthing wrong wit the computer
if it dose come on contnue
turn ignition off
turn ignition switch to the on position but dont start engine
move shift lever to d position
turn the igntion off
put the overdrive switch in the off position
turn the igniton switch on wait for at least two seconds the move shift lever to 2 position
put the overdrive switch in the on position
move the shift lever to 1
put overdirve in the off position
depress the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor then release it
the computer should begin to flash a sequence of long and short flashes
tell me what your flashes are

im going to sleep now as i imagine you have. i wont be up until around 2pm cst.
if you need the codes you can get the haynes manual or contact someone who has one. the info is in chap 7B-3 #72
best of luck

line pressure solenoid valve circuit is shorted or disconnected.
all i know is that you solenoids are in your valve body and are relatively easy to get to. my only guess is that you might need a new solenoid. take it to a shop that will look at it for free, but get several opinions.
according to my book the method for retrieveing codes off a 99 is different than for the 96 method i described above
good luck

I am serious - is is 11 blinks EXCLUDING long first one. Procedure I have done is from FSM.
The problem I am trying to resolve is when shifted to Reverse it is hard knock, RMPs drops to below 500 and stalls octionaly. Dealers sucks, and mechanics does not have a clue what's happening.

is your hard knock feel like its slipping? mine would just sit in reverse but not move until i applied the gas then it would knock/pop/jerk into gear.
with the dealers and mechanics, you just have to pick the best of the worst. i went with mr transmission as they are a national chain in the states and their warranty is good all over.
good luck

saw my OD light blink a couple times today when i started... uh oh.. but then i drove around for awhile and turned off the car and then back on like 30 seconds later.... no blinks.. then drove around couple more minutes and turned off the car and waited some more to see if it would blink if i started it up again... and still nothing. does that mean the code or whatever is already saved somewhere and i would have to go though those steps to find out what the code is?

if the light stays on all the time you probably have a code stored.
you can go through the procedure to see if you have any codes either way.
one long flash then a long pause followed by ten short flashes means your fine

yup... the code was 12 05 - Line Pressure Solenoid Valve (Automatic Transmission)
but yea.. expected that to come on. welp... had some fun with the resistor mod.. not worth it.. didnt feel much difference except for the rougher shift. i reseted the ecu and my baby is back to normal![ThumbsUp](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
hey.. i dont get why those steps were so long? i did the one in the FAQ or the How-To's and it didnt say anything about stepping on the gas or moving to D or anything. Just turned to the 'on' position... turn the screw on the ecu and turned it back 2 seconds later and the check engine light starts doing its thing.

it is my understanding that using the screw on the ecu will describe codes for the everything while the list above is transmission specific, for example if your od light is on/flashing it means you have a problem involving your tranny not your engine and such.
i think
after typing all this out it has come to my attention that all of these problems occured after you used the drop resistor mod, and with pluging it back in and resetting the ecu you are fine, except the horrible pain you caused your tranny running the drop resistor, let alone without a tranny cooler.
good luck
