Check out AEM they claim to make an "Air Bypass Valve" that totally eliminates the chance of water ingestion should the filter element become wet. Sounds really good. This may be enough for me to finally decide on a CAI. Just wanna share some new info with my fellow riderz!

Sorry I haven't read the magazine yet. How much did they say it costs and does it restrict the intake in any way?

 

from the picture, i would think it would restrict the air some what. but i also havent heard of many people having problems with water, i have drove in hard rain and nothing went wrong. just have to take it easy when there are big puddles around. no more puddle jumpin

 

I plan to wait around to see the feedback from people who actually use it.
- Does AEM sell the valve alone ?

Well I don't think I'll get it unless I hear about problems with the CAI and water.

 

Waste of money unless you intend to drive through 1+ feet of water...

 

to ruin your whole day.

I spoke to AEM this morning. The bipass valve provides no restriction to the air flow whatsoever and only opens in the presence of a vacuum. Very clever design. I wish I had thought of it.

From my perspective, the AEM bipass valve provides cheap insurance and a whole lot of peace of mind.

 

keep in mind this would be another leak to worry about. the valve could in time go bad and you have a new air leak. air comin' in from a different hole disrupting air flow, causing turbulance.

 

So it only opens up when you submerge the whole airfilter. so what happens when you submerge it in a puddle and then keep on driving. No vacuum anymore. Water straight to the engine. BAM!!!! too late
