Stupid!..Yet Intelligent Clock
Stupid!..Yet Intelligent Clock
Ok, I have one of those retarded clocks, that goes on and off blah blah, a couple months ago I had a friend of mine solder it, and it worked for a week or so, then died. I was too lazy to take it back to him, so I just used the clock on my cd player. Now, it's gotten really cold here in Iowa, and now all of the sudden my clocks been working! Is it because of the weather? What gives.
probably, mine would sometimes work whenever it was really hot in my car, but when i turn on the AC it would slowly go off. same with my climate control, it was working in the cold, but now its adjusted itself to the cold and it doesnt work right
This is a lesson in Thermal Expansion, kids...
when parts get hotter/colder, they expand and contract. different materials (like nickel and copper used in the leads on electrical components) expand faster than others (like silicon and fiberglass used in circuit boards), and slower than others (like lead and tin used in making solder)
so when you start changing the temp on stuff, the parts will move in relation to each other. contacts that used to have air space between them will suddenly connect again.. parts that were touching but not soldered together will suddenly stop working...
anybody get where I'm going?
