NEW NOISE.....Please Read

I have a new noise coming from my eninge. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the timing chain noise that you will get everynow and then when you start cold. Well yesterday I noticed while driving in a parking garage, that I have that noise when I blip the throttle to about 3k and let it fall. As the RPMS are falling I get that "timing Chain Noise". Now I don't know if that is what the noise is coming from but that is what it sounds like. I took it to the dealer today and they listened to it and said that it is defenitly not normal and I have to take it in next monday. Has anyone dealt with this sort of problem, and If so should I worry about driving long distances. I don't want to get somewhere and my car f*ck up. Thanks.

I think you might fall into the new recall. That might fix it.

Yea, but i haven't read of that noise meaning that you need the recall. All they say is that the engine will not start, stop running , or lose power. I hope this isn't anything serious

tell them to check your pre cats. i had the same problem. nasty rattle from 3k to 1k only when the rpms were falling. found out my front pre-cat was "breaking away" and the reason was bc i had a high flow cat which didnt allow enough back pressure. LOL!

will

Interesting.....did you noise sound like the "timing chain rattle". and How does the precat make that noise....is it just a piece of the precat hitting the piping. And did yours do it all the time or only after the engine warmed up? Thanks

Well, I left my car with the nissan dealership for two days for them to try and fiqure out what the noise is. I just picked it up and the SM told me that they don't know what the noise is, and the tech said that he thinks that it is the cam gears. They said that they are going to have to call the Engineers to get them to help, but they are not availible this week, so I have to wait another week. I hope it all gets figured out.

Umm...I am not sure on what you are referring to as lifters, because the VQ is an overhead cam motor in which you don't have lifters. All you have is Valve rocker arms. I am assuming that you are talking about lifters on pushrod motor which as stated above do not exist in our cars.

It most certainly does have lifters. They are located between the cam lobe and the valve stem. To adjust valve clearances, you have to replace out of spec lifters. The VQ35DE does NOT have rocker arms.

I stand corrected....I just looked at my service manual. WELL then that sheds some more light onto the subject. Now are they hydraulic?
