there is a recall for alternators does anyone know whats it about mine has just started to make a noise like bearings are going out it does it at idle only and is also losing power at idle so if anyone had it done please let me know as to what it is thanks.

 

check with the dealer.Got mine replaced free...

Yep, there was a recall for mine, I just brought it in and they told me right then and there I guess by some tag on the alternator. One little tip; if you need to replace the belt, have them do it at the same time, they only charged me for the belt, no labor and it only makes sense...

 

mine was recalled.

most 97s and early 98s I believe. one of the 3 diodes are defective

you will hear it whine like crazy once its bad

Mine caught fire. So, its a pretty serious problem. =P
