Grill Removal -- 2002

Does the front grill (with the emblem) come off the car? If so how? I'm trying to install two new horns and can't maneuver my hand to put it back on.

I know this has been discussed many times before and I think all there is is three bolts/clip on the top that hold it in. remove those and then pop it out because there are some clips on the bottom and just pop out.

I took mine off to install Hella horns. I remember there being 3 screws you had to remove...

Found the three screws. The one in the middle behind the latch looks like a tight fit. Will a normal socket wrench fit?

not the light. I have 2 of the three nuts off the grill. The last is right in front of the latch for the hood. I can't get my socket wrench back in there...its too tight.

Yeah, I finally found one small enough to fit in the space. There are two plastic partitions on either side and you can only move the wrench 1/2 inch at a time before you hit one of the partitions. To make matters worse, this third nut turns the opposite way of the other two. After installing the horns...I didn't bother putting that little nut back. What a pain in the @22. Pics and wav files to come.

Yeah! I took the recordings at the same place...standing by the front driverside door. I'm real pleased with how this came out. The stock horns used to be almost as loud inside the car as outside. These new horns are more muted inside.

How is the bottom of the grill held on? Did you just have to pull on it to get it out after you removed the three top nuts?

There are two clips at the bottom corners. You can see them sticking out if you look down with a flashlight. Put your finger under one of the clips and wedge it so you are pushing up with your finger on the clip, then pull on that side of the grill, you will hear it unclick. Now, have someone hold that side and do the same to the other. If someone does not hold it, the side will lock back in while you pull on the opposite side.
