right now i have an apex'i muffler with the stock b-pipe and cat. converter. i was thinking of going to a stillen b-pipe and budget test pipe, but i was wondering about the noise. i have heard that as long as you keep your stock muffler, you can basically do whatever you want to your exhaust system, and the noise will be minimal.

but i wonder if going back to the stock muffler would basically negate the b-pipe and therefore waste my 220 bucks!

any input on this?

also i was planning on going with the budget b-pipe, but i have heard too many stories about poor fitment. anyone know any differently?

the b-pipe may not effect sound, but the y-pipe definetly will.
try to find a 5th gen muffler if you want a quiet sound, the dual tip ones are variable mufflers so their good performance wise too.

 

so is that why people run the 5th gen mufflers? because they have better performance over 4th gen mufflers?

 

still bumping...any other opinions?

Although I am probably going to do a muffler as my nex mod, I am currently running the Warpspeed Y and B pipe with the stock converter and muffler. The b-pipe makes a big difference in sound, but I am planning on going with a deeper tone for spring (Flowers like Music). You will get most of the gains from the Y-pipe, I still hear my CAI over my exhaust right now. Remember every mod will help, and you can keep going if you are not satisfied.

 

yeah i had already checked his site out. it does mention the noise, but not the effect on his power.

 

how much does the B-pipe really gain anyway? hp gains with a y-pipe and cat change out?

 

2-4 hp IF that. Our b-pipes don't really have any restrictive bends or anything. There is only one but it's nothing serious.

 

you know, i thought that i had read that a muffler really didnt affect performance all that much. as in the hp gains were so minimal that the difference between a stock muffler and an after market one were basically nothing.

 

yep, 0-1 hp. It's a sound mod.

His car has gained a noticeable amount of torque with the B-pipe and decent horsepower as well. If i was you i'd definately go with Budget B-pipe. I'll take all the torque i can get my hands on.

I have heard many say that catbacks don't show real gains because the stock b-pipe has no real issues regarding restrictions. However, better flow can be had if you change the stock muffler with a high flow type and there shall be some real gains because the restrictions of the stock mufflers are eliminated by higher flowing types.

 

This may sound stupid, but what is the pipe set-up starting from the engine going out to the tailpipe? ( I know it starts with a y-pipe....then what in order back from there?)

 

I believe you have the following from the engine (stock):

1) exhaust manifolds
2) y-pipe (with precats)
3) catalytic converter
4) b-pipe
5) muffler
6) tip

I'm basing that on the diagram I have in my Chiltons manual.
