Ever turn off your car and hear "clink-clink-clink" sound from the engine? Well ... yeah, my has been doing that since I got it ... so I never really paid any attention to it, so I don't know if it's good or bad or doesn't matter. But whats been bothering me lately, is that I'v been hearing that noise when my Maxi is on, but only after she's warmed up a bit. I can't really say if I hear that sound if I'm driving anywhere, because I can only hear it from outside and if my Maxi is parked cause then the wind doesn't drown out the noise. So do you guys/gals think that my Maxi is knockin on me or what? Hope she's not :-(

 

My car does when I detach the IACV hose and turn the car off with the key. The car is getting air but not fuel. It's the pistons or rods hitting the block I believe.

 

hmm ... interesting. I recently changed my fuel filter ... is it likely that I didn't install the filter right or something? I didn't do any other work to the engine really (OSCAI & K&N filter, and sorta cleaned the TB) ... wierd ... anyway to fix this problem? for it is really starting to worry me!

It's bad. Maybe need a new knock snesor, BUT, first of all, what grade of gas do you use? You must use supreme.

 

I always use the best for my car! The problem is, that when my mom drove it (about 1yr ago I got it) she was using 87!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ALWAYS fuel up with 93 for my Maxi!

 

Big D. if that would happen, your engine would be in pieces...It may be the fuel injectors or...maybe something else.

yea does it to me on really cold days.. mechanic says its my flywheel but also did it when I was auto..

 

What the...?? Notice he said it also happens when the car is OFF. Every car that I've ever heard makes this noise right after it is shut off. To my understanding, the clink-clink-clink noise is the exhaust pipes expanding upon warm-up when the car is on, and contracting while their cooling down with the car off.

i could swear you mentioned 8 degree mornings in two threads i read in the last 5 minutes. that's not even that cold.

 

Not really. I know my injectors are bad but if the IACV hose is disconnected and you turn the car off with the key, the engine will be off but it's still sucking in air. You get this loud metal to metal sound.

 

The engine isn't sucking in air when it is off because there's no vacuum in the cylinders...

 

If you don't believe me try it yourself. You'll hear the IACV sucking in air for a second or 2 after the engine is shut off. Don't call BS unless you know what you're talking about.

that's the sound of metal expanding/contracting due to the heat the exhaust creates. it's NORMAL.
