What should I replace on my 240,000k car?

My 96 Maxima 5spd has 240,000 miles on it. I want to be able to drive it hard, so im guessing I'll have to replace several things. The first things I will do is replace the motor and get a tranny rebuild. What else do you recommend I do?

www.car-part.com for engine. Look in the "Gerneral Forum" for the how to buy a engine thread.

You prob need brad new suspention, so you can drop it and new motor mounts too.

buy a new car, honestly. look tranny rebuild + engine work = 3000 big ones. buy a new car. say you did all this work, and sumone hits your car its worth NOTHING because of the # of miles on it, regardless if it has a brand new engine and tranny. save your cash and keep checking those want advertisers untill you find the max your really want...with that cash you can get a loan easy!

otherwise-don't fix a thing untill it breaks. this especially applies for transmissions and engines imo.

I agree, neighbor.....the cost factor just can't be justified. My friend sold his sister his 90 SE with 235,000 k when he bought his 99 C70 coupe. The car runs good, but wouldnt be able to be "driven hard" with its age. Get a newer Max, the 97-99 have a better interior anyways.

Just regular maintenance. I was surprised myself that this engine lasted so long, but its all the way you take care of the car. I also barely ever drove it hard.
