whining noise when shifting gears.....huh??

Ok well its very faint.....but when I am changing gears, primarly into second I can hear it.....and fourth maybe because they are closer. But when I'm starting to engage the gear clutch all the way in, I hear this faint high pitch whine as I pull it into gear. I can feel it a little in the stick shift too.........any ideas?

Your clutch might be on the verge of going out. My dad had a similar whine in his toyota corolla and not too long after, his clutch went out. I don't know what part in the clutch, but I would just save up so that if it happens, you are prepared.

Well thats just great. So I wonder if my hesitation problem is a clutch and not a injector.......lord who knows anymore.

Sounds like a bad throwout bearing to me. Might as well replace the whole clutch assembly.

Would this explain the chattering I am getting from the stock clutch?

To test the throwout bearing:
In neutral, while you're parked, get the engine up to ~3k, put the clutch in (don't touch the shifter)...does it make the noise?

This will somewhat isolate the moving parts to the throwout bearing...of course your input shaft will be spinning too, so if the problem's there you might hear it when you do this test.

If the noise happens as you pull it into gear, it could be either your syncros, or a bearing (or more) inside the transmission. When my input shaft bearings went, I heard a high-pitched whining when putting it into gear. I also had clutch chatter.

Are you going to fix this yourself?

Not sure I guess it all depends on what the problem realy is. I just need to diagnose it first.

Solve all of what problems? If it's the throwout bearing, his tranny could be fine. Hell, if it's any bearing, inside or out of the tranny, it's not that big of a deal.

If you have a bearing failure, get the bearings fixed...and make sure it's done right. Once you get past the bearing problems, our transmissions aren't really that bad.

Yeah...that's the problem I'm talking about...get new bearings put in and shimmed properly. Problems solved.

What exactly does the chatter feel/sound like. I have a slight grinding sensation while engaging 1st. I too have a whining sound. I figured it was the throwout bearing. The tranny makes a slight noise when my foot it not on the clutch and goes away when I press it. Time for a new clutch and brearing?

My chatter happened when I would engage the clutch (pedal up). Basically your car shakes like crazy. Once you're in gear, it quiets down again.

That doesn't sound like a throwout bearing...when the clutch is engaged (pedal up), the bearing is not spinning. That almost sounds like a bad input-shaft bearing...is your tranny leaking any oil?

I'd recommend taking it to a good transmission shop and having them listen to it. I'd do that now, before it gets real expensive to fix (see sig)

You're still under warranty? It should cover this. Do you have mods? If so, I'd recommend taking them off before going to the dealership...they may try to blame the failed tranny on the mods.

I second that about the mods. They will look for those to be the excuse of why your tranny is having problems.

No, I bought it at a local used car dealer, and I have a warranty through them. I assume they would work on it. My mods right now are STS (came with it) and hacked airbox. I have had the car for a week.

They will most likely blame your problems on the STS. I don't know what they'll do since it came with the car. Was this a Nissan dealer?
