squeaking coming from the rear, checked FAQ's

hey guys, i checked the FAQs and im going to try all the stuff that has to do with rattling and squeaking tommorw, but id like to get some opinions on this noise thats coming from the car. When i go over bumps, i hear squeaking and its coming fromt he rear, if i get out of the car and press the rear down and up, it wont squeak, even if the road is uneven, i get squeaking, its REALLY annoying me now beacuse i guess i paid more attention to it. anyone else have this problem, i cant isolate it yet because i need someone else to drive while i listne for it.i sprayed silicon spray on the strut mounts in the rear, not sure if i had to take anything apart so i could spray inside?not sure, anyways any help is appreciated, its a 95 GLE

thanks in advance

Umm. get in the trunk and have someone drive the car to really pinpoint the location of the squeak

well I think it all depends on a few factors. It could be your shocks, or it could be your springs. If its really cold it could be your springs squeeking. Does it happen on high speeds, or low speeds?

it goes away at high speeds, i think after about 40-45 mph i dont hear it, or i hear it once every minute. i checked the boots on the shocks, and they werent leaking, thanks for teh replies

Do you have any mods? Has your suspension ever been out? It could be a billion different factors from the OEM setup to the RSB, or even springs that were installed without the isolation sleeves. More info is needed.

Make sure your spare, jack and tools are secure in the trunk. My jack was loose in its mount and it took me forever to figure that out.

Also take a look at the squeak repair TSB in the TSB Sticky.

Wrap your jack in a terry towel. I had the MOST ANNOYING SQEAK for like a year before I figured out that it was the jack. Seriously, I was at my wits end because it was SOOOOOOOOOO ANNOYING. I had my girl drive the car with me sitting in the trunk over bumps and **** and I could enver figure it out. Finally I somehow realized it was the jack. I had to put on the spare at one point and I guess it just wasn't in there good.

yeah, its not the spare, i dont think its the jack cuz its pretty secure in place, but ill give that a shot too, i put cloth under the spare and it wasnt that, your right though, squeaking has to be the most annoying thing on the planet, drives me up the walls, what indications will tell me if its the springs or shocks that are causing the problem, cuz when i press down on the rear, i dont get any squeaks

I had an annoying squeak and rattle from the trunk area on my 95 SE. It took me a while to figure it out. But when going over bumps, I noticed the rear spoiler bouncing up and down. The trunk was actually loose. I adjusted the latch that bolts to the body, installed 2 new rubber grommets in the inside of the trunk lid, and never heard a rattle ever since. Get behind your car, and try and pull the trunk up and down to duplicate the noise.

Yea try the jack. Most things seem to be rattles...if it's squeaking and you can't reproduce it except for when you drive, that def might be it. If I remember right I even tightened the jack in place a couple times to get rid of the squeak and nothing changed until I put a towel in there. That might not be it, but it's def worth a try to remove the jack and see if it goes away.

Good luck!

quick follow-up, i found that the noise was coming from an exhaust pipe directly connected to the cat conv., the hanger stretches out over age i believe, i guess maybe it goes brittle in the cold then stretches out due to the weight after years of use. anywya the bolt was scrapping against the heat shield or so i remember i twas the heat shield. instead of a scrapping or rattling, it was squeaking, i replicated the noise when i got under the car and shook the pipe every few inches until i replicated the noise. just in case someone else runs into the same squeaky problem and wants to pull out there hair.

thanks for the suggestions, i did manage to get rid of some other rattles with you guy's help

If it is a squeek: could be from the rear door handles: I have same thing on my 96.

That happened to my van, I replaced the shocks, and the noise went away. The noises came from roads with bumps, or going over speed bumps. After I installed it, there were noises from the back, but not the same ones, after the first 15 minutes it goes away, I guess it needs to be broken in.

It's probably the front A-pillar which is squeaking. Mine is doing the same but i haven't had time to fix it.

I had squeaks from both the front and rear areas. Got some silicone dry lubricant and sprayed the mounts and the squeaks went away today
