OPINIONS on lowering my Max cheaply....

Alright...I been at the modding game a while. I've lately had to pay for an accident I got myself into and a new trans for my Max. (~$2k plus)

I havent gotten anything for my car since MAY '03....I got the modding bug bad.

Eventually I will have KYB/AGX and Eibach springs...seems like the best setup. Right now I MIGHT be able to swing $100 for lowering springs and my stock struts. I always been weary about doing this because of the fear of blowing my shocks within little time.

So my question is...will lowering springs blow my struts DEFINITELY?? or most likely? what time period are we talking??? I got 105k miles on my car...as far as I know still on the stock struts..

Right now I feel like I want some cheap springs...DEAD SICK of 4x4 look. $100 for cheap springs off ebay??? or hold out TILL END OF SUMMER!! prolly before I can afford to lower it in the right way???

Whats your opinion?

105k on stock struts...they are most likely blown anyway. You can do springs and then wait for struts, it is just not advised. Any reason why you want eibach springs? There are cheaper springs out there that will do the job. You will be much happier if you wait and do them together. Also, don't pay anyone to do the install for you, it is not that hard

Just do the Maxspeeds for now, the SE struts should last a good while. I hade my 96 lowered on Intrax with SE struts for 8 months. The struts did start to leak.

sup luckee, 100 bucks for springs? hmmm, u can easily get some sprints for that price, if u want to put in a little more u can find some eibach's for a little more. I doubt you'll be able to sell your shocks/springs so you might as well rock'em till they blow and when they do u have no choice but to get shocks later but if it were me, i would get shocks first, or hold on to springs and not install until i get shocks. Stock shocks/struts can be very valuable when its time to sell the car....or u may find someone selling their car and needing stock shocks/springs in any condition

Your struts WILL blow. Just takes time. If I were you, I'd just save up for a descent setup. I bought Intrax springs for my car. Lowered it, got an alignment --- six months later blew the stock struts. Then I bought some GR-2's, had to take the whole suspension apart again to install them, and then get another alignment. In my opinion, it ain't worth it. Just save up for the summer and do it right the first time.

I recommend to change out both springs and struts at the same time. Saves the trouble of jacking your car up and dismantling everything twice.

If you are interested, I got a friend selling new maxspeed springs for $100. PM me for details.
As for the struts, just get some kyb agx's (adjustable) or gr-2s (non-adjustable) on ebay...

Exactly what I was getting at...everyone says its not advised...what does that mean??? is it dangerous? or just not advised because you will blow you stock struts?

Eibach seems to be the most reputable spring for good performance...maybe I'm wrong...but it seems to be the best option.

Read My Post Above. You WILL blow the stock struts and you WILL do twice the work or PAY someone twice to do it for you.
