Aftermarket HU in 98 se with bose...

I'm planning on putting in an aftermarket Alpine HU into my 98 se. It has the bose system. I went down to Best Buy to price some stuff. The guy added it up and said everything I would need would be ~90 bucks. Does this sound about right? That's the trim kit, converter for the bose amps, wiring harness and the antenna adapter. I think that's all I need, right?

Anyway, I didn't actually look at the trim kit, so I'm not sure what it looks like, but are there different ones out there? Do they all have the pocket to fill the extra space left over? Are they all of the same quality? I just want to get the nicest one out there, that's all.

Any and all suggestions are very welcome. Thanks guys.

I got my Bose HU replaced with an Alpine cda-9811 and i didn't need that wiring kit that everyone thinks that you need for $60... I did not used the 60 convertor when the shop installed mine... Pearl96Max told me that you do not have to use it, it really isn't necessary... When the shop installed HU they did it by bypassing the internal amp... Now the sound quality out my stock Bose speakers is perfect for now, and they are very loud, crisp, and clear... especially after i fooled with the x-over in my alpine...

Ok, I'm getting mixed stories now. I went to both best buy and circuit city, and best buy tells me I need the wiring harness and converter, like I said, but circuit city said I can just use the preouts on my HU and not bother with the converter. He showed me a pic of the thing in the catalog. It looks like two (or four?) rca connectors that hook up to the preouts on the HU and then two connectors that hook up to the factory harness. It was labled "Nissan/Infinity with premium sound" or something like that. Can I just use that and the antenna adapter? Would that be all I'd need?

i bought that converter from best buy when i got my headunit but i couldn't figure it out so i took it back and found a converter at wal-mart for $12. it doesn't sound the best when i turn it up so i'm debating whether to buy new front components or get a different better converter, what do you guys think? i've never heard about hooking the speakers straight up to the headunit will that work anyone?

Ok, I decided how I am going to wire it, I just need a decent trim kit now. The one I looked at at best buy looks like crap, it's the nd-k717 or something. I just looked cheap, plus at the bottom the outer trim indents on either side, and the factory space is a perfect rectangle with rounded corners, so if I was to put this in there'd be two huge gaps at the bottom and that's unacceptable. So, in your guy's experience, what's the best kit out there that looks the nicest?

Its a wire harness, so basically I wont be cutting any stock wiring, if I ever go back to stock everything will be there like nothing happened.

Its done and sounds great. Forget the PAC adapters and all that you need is an antenna adapter and a Metra 7550 adapter. Power the speakers through the preouts of your radio. I love it how it sounds and saved a lot of money.
