Infamous SES light

Time has come for me to deal with this what seems to be a common problem among Maxima owners. Just got a SES light and I was wondering if there is something I can do to help make it go away. I'm suspecting it's either MAF or one of the coils although my Max is 2001 model. Or could it be O2 sensor? Do I need to go to a dealer to diagnose the problem or guys from Sears or Pepboys diagnose it?

In any case, thanks for your input.

These threads pop up more than I can phathom. I'll try to be calm here.

SES light coming on can be ANYTHING. I cant speculate what it is. There are over 100codes that it could set it off. You need to get the code checked and then come back here and let us know what it was. Go to an autozone, they pull the code for free and clear it too..

To speculate what it could be is the worse thing you can do. And anyone on here that says "its probably the maf, or probably a loose fuel cap" is stupid. Yes it can be that at times, but its better safe than sorry to get the code read and then take action.

I was driving on I-65 doing about 70MPH in 6th gear around 2300RPM TODAY~ Just crusing.....then my SES Light also came on as well.......everything seems fine, I was able to Rav the RPM freely into Redline and doesn't seems to be a MAF failure....but I guess I'll go get my Code Pull too tomorrow.

Damn Maxima and SES Lights..

Do you have to pull codes from Nissan dealer? Anyone else can do this (like Pepboys or Sears autocenter)? A Nissan dealer is really far from where I live so it would be nice if someone else can.

I did mention that you can go to your local autozone and get it pulled for free there.

My SES light came on this last week, and I wrote a post about it. It had to do something with the emission system. If it ultimately wasnt covered under the emissions warranty it would have been $66 at the Nissan dealer. Good thing it was covered!

I went to local AutoZone to get my SES Light pulled and it reads

"Manufacture Air/Fuel Meter", doesn't tell which part has the problem or give any Code#

Any ideas before I head to the dealership?
