Your Cat Converter Failed for a Reason

At the bottom of Warpspeed's Nissan page, they put a little link saying, "Just a tip, your cat failed for a reason. Fix your car before you install a new cat." with link to Car-Sound.
How can I diagnose the right problem? Should I take it to a shop and get them to check it out? Btw, I just ordered a Car-Sound cat from Warpspeed. Thanks guys

uhhhhhhhhhhh.....is your cat actually bad? Or did you just read that?

And if your cat is bad, what is wrong with it?

They are informing people who's cats are busted. Basically it's a warning to fix something before installing a new cat because if your cat failed, there is something wrong that made it fail. If you dont change this, the new cat will eventually fail soon and youll be in the same position you are in right now.

i disagree with what they say partially.
also rt cats fail all the time just because they blow ****.
i'd say just replace your cat.
also what is wrong with your cat?

good luck!

Exactly what I'm trying to say, thanks.

Basically, I want to stop and think about what clogged up the cat and actually diagnose the problem.

Right... I forgot to say that I went to get my bolts broken for a Y-pipe install (goof). The looked at the OEM Y pipe, and saw that it was glowing red. They let me look at it to confirm, so yes, it was really glowing red. The guy said my cat is probably broke, and also noticed that the resonator on my b-pipe is dented.

So, how do I check the cat to see if its broken? And, should I go to the expense of replacing it? or just gut it. I mean, I already ordered the cat... but I could cancel the order.

I'm almost at 140k and my cat is NG. When I bought my car the MIL light was on due to the failure of the 02 sensors. I took it to the stealership and they replaced all of them for free due to the emissions recall. They also told me my cat had a hole in it caused by the enigne running rich for so long.

Sorry to ask, but what is 'NG' and 'MIL'?

I'm guessing 'no good' on the NG, but MIL has me clueless.

MIL = Malfunction indicator lamp
MIL = CEL
CEL = Check Engine Light
CEL = SES
SES = Service Engine Soon

....So waitaminute: Your Y-pipe is glowing red, so your cat is broke?

Also, even though your B-pipe is dented, does it still function?

I'm not sure exactly what's wrong, but realize that by going to a shop to have something as easy to install as a y-pipe done makes you look like a target.
