Best guage cluster bulbs?
Best guage cluster bulbs?
Anyone change the bulbs in their 5th gen? I hate the brownish light in the day and the not so white light in the night. I want it to be like the lights on the Lexus cars' gauges. Something like this. But is it going to be hard to do this?

lexus, late model infiniti and even the new accord use a backlit gauge face with LED needles. you will never even come close to the same effect with conventional bulbs.
i don't think you can even change the bulbs on most 5th gens. they are some off size, and come with the actual socket. i did a search on that a while ago myself, and nothing really came out.
4th gens have a typical bulb size and illumination pattern giving them more freedom to experiment, and also a bunch of indiglos to choose from.

Nismo said he found some bulbs that would work but he hasnt posted back yet.
Pretty much you are out of luck since other orgers have tried and have not been successful because the light was to direct and did not spread out.

Yeah I did get some bulbs but I have been so busy doing other things I put it on the back burner. I will get to it possibly this weekend possibly since I still got to fix what I messed up on my shifter and put in my new components.

There are bulbs and LEDs that fit in the gauge cluster of our 5th gens. They are #74 type.
I ordered some #74 LEDs and installed them on my gauge cluster from here Autolumination.com
Unfortunately, because of the small angle at which the light is distributed, the LEDs light up only a small area on the cluster. Since there are only two bulbs on the cluster that light up all the gauges, it looked pretty bad. I ordered some "superwhite" bulbs because they will distribute light better (like stock), but hoping that they are brighter than stock. I expect them sometime this week, so I will update this thread no later than Saturday.

Yep, Now instead of ordering a new shift assembly for $306.00 I am doing something custom and I am waiting for parts.

I cant wait to find out the results of those superwhite bulbs. They are stock wattage right so there isnt any possibility of melting through the gauges or something.
